I know that this question has been asked, and answered a thousand times over. However, I have a domestic argument to put to rest!

We were discussing our upcoming trip to FP with a couple who visited FP last year for their honeymoon. The topic was dress code. Dress code has been answered on this forum many times over, so I had a pretty clear vision of what it entailed. With that being said, this couple insisted that closed toed shoes were required for the guys at most of the restaurants. I found this humerous! My FW insists that they are the authority on the topic. I dismissed the notion of a tropical island location outlawing sandals and such for diners.

Could the experts clarify what is expeted of us when dining and put this to rest? AKA-prove me right.

Thanks!

In over 35 years in Tahiti and a "Carte de Sejour" (Resident Permit holder) I have NEVER worn closed toed shoes in Tahiti.
My Burkies without sox, shorts, and a button front or polo shirt
are OK. The way we tell who's a tourist is by their white sox and tennis shoes.I wear long pants to and from Tahiti
on the plane only. Long pants, shirt, and sandels are fine.

I never wear anything but flip flops the whole time I'm there. And we have eaten at some of the fancier places with no problem.

LOL, Poehere! That reminds me of watching some Tahitian women get off of an Air France flight (just back from Paris, I assume). They were all dressed up and as soon as their feet hit the tarmac, they took off their shoes & walked barefoot to the building. I got a real chuckle watching this line of fancy-dressed women in their bare feet, looking so happy!

Closed shoes? Arggh, I had to wear them yesterday for the first time in 5 weeks because it was cold at the LAX airport (and on the plane) and my socks look funny with flip-flops!

In 17 years of trips to FP, neither hubby nor I have EVER worn closed shoes to any restaurant there, or anywhere else in FP!
