I really want to experience feeding stingrays during my stay in Tahiti. I have a week at Moorea and a couple of days at Bora Bora (while on the Paul Gauguin) and have read that there is the option at both places. Has anyone had any expereinces (good or bad) at either?

I've done the stingray feeding on both islands and they were very similar (except when I did the Bora Bora one many years ago, it also included a stop specifically to feed just the sharks, which was exciting). I don't think you can go wrong with either tour. But if by doing it on Moorea, you wouldn't get out in a boat and circle the island of Bora Bora, then I'd suggest you skip it on Moorea and do it on Bora Bora since that lagoon is so beautiful! And, to me, Moorea has so many interesting things to see on the island itself (including the view from the Belvedere, which is spectacular), that I generally recommend you do a 4x4 tour of Moorea and the ray feeding on Bora Bora (if you're limited by time and/or money to do only one tour on each).

We did the stingray feeding and motu picnic on Moorea with Alberts Tours and it was great (I think it left at around 9:00am and we returned around 4:00pm).

The other one that has been discussed on the forum lately is on BB:

Both are GREAT, but the Moorea one has sharks swimming in between you and will occassionally brush against you, but, BB will let YOU actually feed the stingrays - in their mouths and ears (sounds weird but it works). Moorea will let you watch. If you are going for stingrays, then Moorea. If you want the shark experience (and you are not a diver) then Moorea, but diving you'll get to see it better on BB. Just my opinion. The shark feeding on BB is from a distance, but you DO get the big Lemon sharks.

Thanks Gary & Cath. We were lucky to see the lemon sharks (OMG they are big) being fed in Fiji while we were diving. They had the food (cant think of right word) in wheelie bins then opened them underwater. I was about 1 metre away from the lemon sharks (lying very flat on the bottom next the guide). It was amazing!

Where did you dive in Fiji? And who with? Was it with Beqa Dive with the Bull Sharks? They have got alot to answer for! The shark and fishing catching has just changed, and we will be at the fore front of that.

mmm cant remember who it was with but it wasnt Bega Dive. I agree it was awful to see the sharks become lazy with the free food. Cant wait to come over to Fiji and dive at your place. Good luck with it
