Hello all, my wife and I are on the Dec. 20th sailing on the TP and my wife was looking for suggestions on what to bring to wear on the ship, especially at dinner (formal nights). I usually wear a tuxedo but I was thinking of just bringing a nice light weight sports jacket and slacks. What do you veterans suggest?

TahitiTravel offers excellent deals for cruising the magnificent lagoons of French Polynesia.
We highly recommend the Bora Bora Cruises for luxurious intimacy (actually a v.good value compared to the cost of a stay at a 5 star resort) or the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Paul Gaugin for a deluxe but more traditional cruise experience.
Check our Cruises page for more information

Hi - You will see some people dressed up, about 50%, however, a lot of people keep it pretty casual and you will not look out of place in a light weight sports jacket. We are booked on the Feb 28th sailing (our 3rd). We definitely don't go formal. It just doesn't suit the environment you are in. On regular nights, most men wear light coloured "Dockers" and a hawaiian shirt or golf shirt.
Have fun!!

We sail in feb. Will I look out of place in slacks and Hawaiian shirt on formal nights. We stay in Tikehau for 8 days prior to the cruise and I am having trouble keeping the weight down.

yes. I understand the weight thing, why not rent your tux from the ship if you don't want to haul it around. we have been on twice and going again in 07, there were plenty of tuxes and formals. if you just don't want to do the formal nights, I noticed today on Princess' website that they are now offering dinners on balconies, if you happen to have a balcony. You can always do room service, or bring a jacket. the tropical shirt will work for most nights but not formals.

Hi - Hawaiian shirts won't work on formal nights. Also, the "Alternative Restaurants" stick to the formal night dress code as well. We just go with the flow and dress appropriately but I wish they kept it more casual.

Thanks everyone-I might try the rental thing, or store some luggage at the airport and I can pick it up before the cruise.

I'm thinking about renting a tux through the company listed on the Princess web site. $85 seems pretty good for not having to lug it around (have to leave room for the wine and other adult beverages!). Has any one out there done this? Is it reliable? Thanks all! TP Dec. 19th.

Is the $85 bucks for the tuxedo for the cruise or per day?

It's for the whole trip, just the basics (shirt, cumberbund, cuff links.) I couldn't beat that price at home! Link is: http://www.cruiselineformal.com/index.html or you can get there from the Princess website under Prepare For Your Cruise- Cruise Answer Place- Before You Leave- Formal Wear.

thought you might want to know, the TP has a good wine list with good prices. they actually have two wine lists, one you have to request. it has the premium wines. really good selection and prices. we brought a case + with us last time, next time we will only bring our pre and post cruise bottles.
