Hi:

Well, two more months and off we go. Some advice please: The week of our PG cruise, we're planning 3 excursions so far. One is Raiatea Island Tour (sounds pretty relaxing and since it's the first full day after all the travel we thought it would be a good idea), trails of the ancients-Trek in Moorea with archaeologist Mark Eddowes and Lagoon discovery with snorkeling in Moorea. Has anyone taken any one or all of these tours?? We're doing 5 days post cruise in BB, so we'll play it by ear when we're there. Any advice for BB excursions? Thanks in advance. It's hard to think of anything else right now!!

Bora Bora Cruises
TahitiTravel offers excellent deals for cruising the magnificent lagoons of French Polynesia.
We highly recommend the Bora Bora Cruises for luxurious intimacy (actually a v.good value compared to the cost of a stay at a 5 star resort) or the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Paul Gaugin for a deluxe but more traditional cruise experience.
Check our Cruises page for more information

The 4 X 4 tour was fantastic in BB
The free day at the beach in BB was also good.

Is the free day at the beach in BB usually the 1st day of docking or the 2nd day?

Thanks Jim. I understand there's two freebies on the PG cruise. One is the Tahaa BBQ/Beach day and I think that's on a Monday and the other is the BB beach. That's why we plan to wait to schedule any excursions on BB until we're staying there post cruise. We will take the 4x4 once we're in BB.

Not sure if the BB beach day during the PG cruise is 1st or 2nd day in BB. I'll check with my TA.

You can choose. All depends on how you would like to do your excursions.
We did 4x4 first day and beach 2nd.
At that time (02/15/2003),it did not matter.
Don't forget to take a cheap blow up air matress.
Great for Tahaa but really worth while having at BB
beach day since there are no chairs. Use it in the water, then use it on the beach.

I have a great one that folds into a round pocket - used it in Aruba. I guess we'll get my husband one, too. It can be used to stuff towels into, lotion, etc.

I still can't imagine myself in FP cruising the islands and staying in Bora Bora. The anticipation has been a real plus in getting me through this winter!! Thanks for your information. Can't believe it's almost here.
Any comments on the ship?

When we sailed the PG, they had tenders going to the Bora Bora Motu both days (Tuesday and Wednesday). The tenders ran from about noon until 5pm on Day 1 and from about 9am to 5pm on Day 2. The Bora Bora Motu was great (we really enjoyed the snorkeling there), but it wasn't an "event" or party like the day on Taha'a. There are toilets and a bar, but no food that I remember and no chairs or beach umbrellas.

Actually, I loooked up in my notes, and they weren't toilets on the BB motu either. It was a fun day, though.

My wife and I are heading back on the PG in March to celebrate our tenth anniversary and we can hardly wait. We were there 2 years ago and we couldn't think of anywhere we would rather go to celebrate - it really is magical.

As for your other questions, I can't help you with the excursions as we didn't go on any of the excursions you mentioned. I'm not sure what you want to know about the PG. It is a very nice cruise ship with excellent service. One of the nicest parts/surprises (IMO) were the Gauguines - they are a troop of about 8 beautiful young Polynesian women who serve as the entertainment staff for the ship. 2-3 of them stroll around the dining room during dinner singing and playing guitar. They put on 2-3 shows during the week (singing/dancing). I thought that their shows were the best entertainment on the ship. They also have get-togethers where they will help you make shell necklaces, teach pareo tying and things like that. They are a delight.

I know this is kind of silly.
One of the things I remember the most of our cruise was the day at Tahaa.
After locating the chairs we wanted and settling in I decided to go into the water. As I was walking my wife asked me a question. I kept walking and was paying attention to her and did not realize that I was in water above my knees, and then it was only because of movement of the water.
That is how warm the water is!! About 90 degrees.

I am so psyched about this trip. I'm at work right now and my mind is in FP already. I just can't imagine myself being there.....I really haven't read one post from anyone who had anything disagreeable to say about the PG, even on the cruise critic board.

For someone like myself who has not traveled abroad all that frequently, this forum is just worth it's weight in gold. Everyone is so helpful and willing to give their take on everything from cruise info to hotels/ excursions/food/etc. It's absolutely great and I thank you all. The anticipation all these months is such a good part of this whole trip!!
