I'll be on the Nov 4 cruise too on the Aranui... I guess a few of us will meet there.... I am told it's a great trip. I think the food is basic, but nice. I go for the cultural experience and hope to catch up with some locals I met early this year on Rapa Nui

TahitiTravel offers excellent deals for cruising the magnificent lagoons of French Polynesia.
We highly recommend the Bora Bora Cruises for luxurious intimacy (actually a v.good value compared to the cost of a stay at a 5 star resort) or the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Paul Gaugin for a deluxe but more traditional cruise experience.
Check our Cruises page for more information

Hi Nancie, At the moment I will be alone on the cruise. Since I have been to Tahiti already twice, I will stay at a bed and breakfast for the night of the 3rd. Maybe closer to departure, we should all meet the day before for a drink in downtown Papeete. It's an idea. I am rather amazed that through this site I am already in touch with other cruise passenger. I feel it will be a wonderful holiday!

Hi Tangata, Where in Australia are you from? We spent 6 weeks there a few years ago. We traveled from Cairns to Adalaide in a camper van. We love your country. You are such friendly, cheerful people and your beer is the BEST! Yes, indeed we should meet before the cruise. Keep in touch and cheers to a wonderful holiday.

Hi Nancie, Thanks for the nice words about Australia. I live in Brisbane, but am originally from Italy. I have been here for over 20 years now. Yes, we have good beer here.
From other reports on Aranui cruises it looks like passengers break up into French-speaking and all the rest, who mostly speak English.
My main worry about the cruise is that we will be about 200 passengers. I think landing into small villages with 300-400 people will create logistic problems in getting us around. I don't mind walking alot, but there is not that much time.
I have been on Huahine and three times on Easter Island. When a cruise arrives, the whole place stops to cater for tourists, which is not bad. However, I do not think you can get good bargains with souvenirs. I am told Polynesians don't like to bargain with prices. Most things are very dear.

Tangata, Go to tahititalk.com and click on general discussion. On page 2 find thread "The Great Highway (Aranui) to the Marquesas Islands" written by a beautiful, adventurous woman from Canada. I found this trip report so interesting and informative.

I also read her report. Fabulous!! If you had any questions, most will be answered when you read of her adventures. An enjoyable and personal travel log.

Thanks, Nancie.... Ushi's report is really wonderful. She did meet people from the Marquesas before she got there, so it all became very special to her.

Hi everyone, Big hello from Port Douglas, Australia. My husband and I will be travelling on Aranui in December. We are novices if it comes to cruises, although I gather this is not strictly a "cruise". I'd like as much info as possible on the following: - scuba diving possibilities; - trips around the islands we'll be visiting (if it's worth booking in advance some trips, etc.); - what is the currency on board (apart from credit cards); - are there any Internet facilities; and - can we use a phone (and if so, how much is it?) Thank you for all the information!!

No scuba diving 2 years ago when we went. Suggest you stay before or after your cruise and dive on Moorea The trips around the islands were part of the scheduled trip on the Aranui Currency XFP if you use your Australia dollars on the ship the exchange rate won't be very good. Exchange at the airport bank in Tahiti or the next day at a bank. No internet Buy a FP phone card and use pay phones where you dock. A 40 unit cards cost about 16 US
