Love Port Douglas judit....we were there in 1985 before the big hotel building boom. Had the best Moreton Bay Bugs, coral trout, and prawns purchased at the fish shop by where the Quicksilver docked........cooked each meal on the barbie at the Archipelego(sp?) Motel. Watched the budgees fly down the Esplanade every evening at dusk while drinking fine Aussie wine and listening to bush music at the pub on Sundays. Back to FP...We haven't been on the Aranui but did visit the Marquesas last Nov on the Paul Gauguin. The islands are amazing!! We booked our excursions with the ship and were not disappointed but sounds like from Hamara's post that the tours are included in your trip.....fantastic. We plan on returning to the Marquesas in 2008, that's how beautiful and wild we found them. Best, vai

TahitiTravel offers excellent deals for cruising the magnificent lagoons of French Polynesia.
We highly recommend the Bora Bora Cruises for luxurious intimacy (actually a v.good value compared to the cost of a stay at a 5 star resort) or the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Paul Gaugin for a deluxe but more traditional cruise experience.
Check our Cruises page for more information

Thank you, hamara for the good advices - very sad that we can't go diving, though! We will be staying at Le Maitai on Bora Bora for a week before the Aranui trip and we are certainly planning plenty of diving there. We'll also stay on Tahiti island before and after the Aranui trip for a couple of days and we'll spend New Year's Eve there. Planned to stay at the InterContinental, but they have a policy that all their guests have to join in their dinner. So, we've decided not to stay there, but at the Sofitel. Could you pls advise us of a good place to spend New Year's Eve? We don't mind if it's not very "touristy"!! Hi vaitape! Thank you for the kind words about Port! We moved here in early 2000 from Sydney - you know, retirement... My husband is quite old, poor thing ;-)) We are originally from Hungary, although my husband grew up in Buenos Aires and me in Vienna. But we love Australia very much and wouldn't live anywhere else but Port Douglas. The food, the wine, the small village athmosphere and the nice weather and even though it has changed a lot since you've visited, it's still a beautiful place.

I forgot to add in my post that most all restaurants in Tahiti have two sittings and a fixed menu on New Years Eve. We spent New Years eve in 1999 on Moorea.

hi Judit, We'll be on the Nov. 4th sailing of the Aranui. Will try to do a trip report when we get back (Nov 25th) in time for your trip. We spent 2 months in a camper van touring your wonderful country in '99. Loved Port Douglas and Cairns!!

Hi Nancie, Looking forward to your trip report. Have a great trip! Come back to Port and you'll see HUGE changes. Not sure if for the better though... Very sad news, everyone: Steve Irwin (Crocodile Hunter) has died, just off the coast of Port Douglas. Our prayers are with his wife and two small children! RIP, Steve

Hi Tommi: I'm not a sailor but I Googled "Raiatea Sailing" only because Raiatea is the sailing headquaters in FP and got several web sites.
