I need some clarification on the Raiatea part of the cruise. I see that Princess provides a shore excursion Polynesian show and buffet. I have also heard that there is a Polynesian show and buffet on board ship the same night. Am I confused or what? I have heard the show is good and I don't want to miss it. Which one are people raving about?

TahitiTravel offers excellent deals for cruising the magnificent lagoons of French Polynesia.
We highly recommend the Bora Bora Cruises for luxurious intimacy (actually a v.good value compared to the cost of a stay at a 5 star resort) or the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Paul Gaugin for a deluxe but more traditional cruise experience.

mikebernhardt- hello, again; it seems to me from what i have read that the children come on board to dance around 5 pm; and this is free; but then, separate from this, ;you can buy an excursion to the dinner and show; if you go on cruisecritic.com, there is tons of info; you have to go to "boards" and the "ports of call" and then "pacific islands, all"-- put in a search-you will be amazed- see you on huahine with marc- franco

So do you think that the children's visit is what everyone says not to miss? Or the paid excursion?
We may see you with Bruno too- we signed up for the all day trip with him.

I think that it is the free children's show; everyone really raves about it; we were going to do bruno, but we cancelled and went with just a 3 hour drift snorkel with princess (our only excursion directly with princess) my husband didn't want to be on another all day excursion; bruno was wonderful about cancelling it for us; just ripped up the check i had sent; i let him know already 4 weeks ago- his day sounds terrific, though; i think you will enljoy it; we just didn't want the whole day to be involved-- has your wife packed yet? franco

All this time I assumed that "Franco" was a man :-)
We haven't started packing yet, but we got out the suitcases this afternoon. We love the water, so another all day trip sounds great to us, especially after having been at sea the day before.

yes, you are right and i hope i don't regret cancelling; plus, you have your young son with you, and he will thrill to it; he is the age of our two grandsons and they are such a delight at that age; we leave on thursday for a short trip to la with my brother and his family, then 6 days pre-cxruise, so i am pretty well packed (i pack for both of us--for all of us, when we take the kids) I like to pack--and shop-typical woman- anyway franco is my name because i am a french and spanish teacher--and if you forget to pack some tye of medication or cream, just find us; i am sure that i have it--we also take teenagers (mystudents) to france every other year and need to bring everything, and the kitchen sink--i know, we are nuts- see you soon- franco

Ah, that explains "franco" quite clearly.
Well you might enjoy meeting my mother, who we are taking along with us. She is probably older than you (she's 78) but she is french. And my wife majored in french literature and lived in France and Germany for a while. So if you tire of speaking french to Tahitians, you can always speak to the women in my life :-)
See you in a couple of weeks!
Mike

there will be two shows on the ship. the children come on in the late afternoon, and then in the evening, the adults( the children also danced again)dance. It is a great show. I would think that you would not need to spend money on another show, save it for other neat stuff! ( like vanilla beans, Raiatea is where I stock up)

Laurieb, thank you for your response in both topics. Franco and I are both looking forward to this cruise but we have to rely on people like you for the voice of experience! It sounds like I won't miss anything then. Good! I'm looking forwrd to spending the day with Bruno and didn't want to have to hurry back.
