Lagoon Cruises/Catamaran Sails

I'll be travelling to both Moorea and Bora Bora. I have seen excursions for lagoon cruises and catamaran tours. Any feedback or suggestions as to which tours are stand-outs?
Also, what is the difference between the catamaran tours and the canoe tours? (I know the physical differences between the vessels, but how does it affect the tour experience?)
Thank you!

There's probably not a huge difference in the tour experience between the catamaran and the lagoon cruise. Generally they're relaxing, sightseeing, snorkeling, fruit, rum punch, maybe with a pareo tying demonstration included. On Moorea I'd recommend a cruise. Those I've been on have circled the entire island, which you probably couldn't do in a half day on catamaran. Bora Bora's lagoon is much better for sailing; choose a catamaran tour there.
Haven't done a canoe tour, but I'd guess you don't cover nearly the distance as on the other two types. And I imagine rum punch and pareo tying demonstrations are hard to pull off in a canoe.

We took the caramaran trip (1/2 day) from the Pearl Beach BB and loved it.

A canoe tour is the same as the lagoon cruise. If you want to do a very good sunset/lagoon tour/coral reef snorkeling trip try the one done at the Le Meridien Bora Bora. Its very nice, good crew, a little sailing and good snorkeling. Its a half day tour, leaves the Le Meridien around 2 or 3 and returns just after sunset. Very relaxing. On Moorea try the Fetia Ura sunset tour. Its three hours leaves at 3:30 and returns after sunset. Very fun, you sail out of Opuno (sp) bay out in the ocean and back into cooks bay and back again. If you are lucky you will see dolphins and sometimes whales depending on the season. Its a good deal at $45 per person.

Thanks for responding. We were thinking of the lagoon cruise in Moorea and the full-day catamaran tour in Bora Bora. We will be staying at the Pearl Beach in Bora Bora; we were hoping to do the catamaran sail the day after we arrive. Does anyone know if we can book this sail the day before through the PB hotel?
