fun with nature?

Hi - I'm just starting to do some research on FP for my upcoming honeymoon and could use some pointers. I've read a lot about snorkeling/diving, 4x4 tours, and other "excursions" - but is there any hiking (preferably w/o a guide) through forested areas? any interior rivers or waterfalls? any rafting? what about wildlife? I love beaches and snorkeling (and the romantic aspects appeal to us as well), but we're real nature lovers too. any thoughts?

Which islands are you going to visit? And when?

we'll be going in mid to late September for ~10 days (including travel from Michigan)and we are completely undecided on islands. I assume we'll do either Bora Bora or Moorea and hopefully one other more out of the way place. any suggestions?

Went last April to Moorea (4 days - Sheraton) and Bora Bora (4 days - Pearl Beach). Going to Tahaa and Rangiroa this March. The island of Moorea was better, in our opinion, for sightseeing on land. The jeep tour of the island was fun. You can rent bicycles, etc. as well. Can't really help you as to where you can a nd can't go hiking, but the island is beautiful. While the water and snorkeling is great, it did not compare with Bora Bora. As beautifula as Bora Bora was, there was not as much to see on the island as there was in Moorea. We liked Bora Bora better. If you like to snorkel/dive, you'll have a blast.

Kess: There is hiking and I would suggest you buy a travel guide book Tahiti and French Polynesia Guide by Jan Prince that will list the guides The only interior river is on Raiatea that has any tours on it that I know of. Forget the rafting but there is lots to do in the lagoons Waterfalls on Moorea that the 4x4 tours go to.
