How about an excursion to Tetaroa (Marlon Brando's island right?). Is it worth it?

I did it (by boat) in 2001 and loved it. Tetiaroa is gorgeous and very isolated. There's a bird sanctuary that is really cool and the snorkeling there was superb.

Where do the excursions depart from? I understand they are expensive but worth it. Does anyone know the cost?

The one I went on left Moorea from the dock right next to the Club Bali Hai and cost about 90USD, as far as I recall.

Sounds good. Was it an all day trip?
How long was the boat ride?

It left in the a.m. and came back in the afternoon. Boat ride was between one and two hours, and it was really cool to leave the lagoon and be on open water. I would bet the price has gone up since 2001. Check with your hotel. We found our excursion at the airport in Papeete, there's a rack of brochures at the Air Moorea (inter-island) check-in area.

I've been reading through the posts on this board on Tetiaroa and it sounds like a wonderful place to daytrip (although, on another website, they mentioned that the Beachcomber will be building a hotel there in 2005). Most of the websites offering daytrips are running around $400; we'd love to take a fast catamaran from Moorea. Kam: did you have any luck lining up this excursion? Susan: I don't suppose you've remembered who your operator was? We'll be staying at the Moorea Beachcomber, but I get the sense that booking this kind of daytrip through their activities desk might not be the most affordable option

I've been looking for info on this, also. Anyone have the info for a one day boat tour?

Today it was announced in Tahiti Presse that Air Moorea has stopped its flights to Tetiaroa.

Read the article at http://www.tahitipresse.pf, under the topic "Tourism."

There are three or four sailingboats doing the trip from Papeete, not daily, only on reservation. They all charge around CFP 11.000 per person/day some with picnic, some without. This sounds expensive but I think it is ok for a wholedaysailingtrip to an remotet atholl. They all start at 6am from Papeeteharbour and will be back 12 hrs later (around 4 hrs sailing each way, around 4 hrs on the island). From Moorea the firts ferrys leave at 5:00/5:30 and dock not too far from the marina with the Tetiaroacatamarans, so it will be possible to reach the boat from Moorea ... but it might be difficult to come back to Moorea at the same evening!

It is not easy to book this trip ... even if you are at Papeete. We did try five month ago and we failed (two boats were on another chartertrip and the last canceled the trip one day in advance: bad weatherconditions). I think, all the boats try to catch a minimum of 6-10 passengers.

Try to phone directly at these boats (french and english): Jet France (Tel 561562) or LŽEscapade (Tel: 778531) or Biotherm II (I donŽt know the phonenumber but the Papeete touristoffice has a flyer) just a week before you want to go.
