cruising on PG, which island is the best for a waverunner tour from the cruise list or is it better to do it on your own, from shore, etc.

We have rented waverunners on Moorea and BoraBora and our favorite place to rent them without a doubt is BoraBora. We rented them through an independent tour group at the dock, much cheaper than the cruise ship rates.

My husband and I did the waverunner trip in Bora Bora. It was awesome but quite expensive for two waverunners, around $370 I think. We rented them through BBPB and did the 2 hour trip. My husband and I are experienced riders so it was a little disappointing in the beginning since we couldn't run them at full throddle. We continued getting in trouble for following too close and going too fast. We didn't rent waverunners in Moorea, but heard lots of good reviews by people who did. Although, if I had a choice between the two islands I would choose Bora Bora because of the beautiful lagoon. We stopped at a Motu and were able to take pictures, and the guides cut open coconuts for us to try coconut milk and bannanas with shaved coconut on top, delicious. After finishing up on the motu, the guides finally let us cut loose on the waverunners but only for a short time since we were back to the resort. All in all I believe it was worth the money becuase of the beautiful scenery and incredible lagoon.

We also went on the PG but did waverunners in Moorea. You go to the Moorea Beachcomber and then tour. While you don't go around the island like in BB (too big)! there is a really neat difference - you stop at a motu for ray feeding! The rays are incredibly friendly and allow you to pet them, etc. We all sat down in the water and were practically at eye level with them.
Every day, the guides stop there and bring a few bites of fish, so the rays always show up. The waverunner guides have named the rays & all of them have very distinct personalities.
So, while we heard about how fun BB was, I'm so glad we went on Moorea just for the fun with the rays (and bring your camera!!)

So you have to have guides for riding the waverunners, and only one per PWC. That kind of sucks for experienced riders, maybe a boat type tour would be better. I'm sure they have no standups either.
BTW there is very cool place in St. Martin that rents standups and Waveblasters, and they will take you into the huge surf and let you go as big as you want to.

Yup definitely Bora Bora Grandma!!!
No stand ups though, most people ride 2 to a ski due to the outrageous cost and yes you have to have a guide.
I agree with you sub....kinda takes all the fun out of it. Good way to see the island though

I bought a Hobie Cat last month, and soon I'll learn how to sail it. Someone suggested a guy (I have it somewhere) who has one he might rent or borrow. That might be a more fun way to see the island I think.
To me, jetskiing with a guide would be about as fun as those horesback rides the tourists pay for around here. You don't have to do anything because the horse knows the way and just wants to hurry up and get back because it's too hot. I don't blame him!

We rented the wave runner in Bora Bora with the Miki Miki company and although it is a 2 hour guided tour around the island...it was fun..you can have 2 per jetski and they did allow us to go full throttle and standups...you can ask...they may allow you too. It wasn't that expensive..I believe it was $150 for 2 hours rental..

The reason for the guides when riding jetskis in FP is the coral. There are basically "marked paths" in the lagoon so you don't run into the coral heads with boats and other watercraft, and the guides will show you the way through, since they know what to look for. If you want extreme jet ski rides, try Cabo.
