Pacific Girl, when where you there? I'll check out that Miki Miki company.
Do you remember where they were located?

I'd have no problem avoiding coral, and I know when to chill out and when to get crazy. I just don't want an overly supervised ride.
I don't get to the ocean much being in AZ, but it would be nice to get out into the waves. I'd ship my own skis over there if it wasn't prohibitively expensive.

I was dissappointed when we were in Maui last year. There is only one company renting PWC, and although he advertised standups on his website, he only has couches. Then, I guess due to restrictive regulations, he has a buoy marked area out in the bay where you can ride. You actually have to take a boat ride out to a platform where you board the skis. So there were no waves, no surf, and nothing to see. So I passed.

SusanS, I have friends who go to Cantamar Mexico every year in October after the World Finals and ride with the pros in the surf. I need to make that trip sometime.

I am positive they will not let you take these out into the surf. Its a cruise thru the inside of the lagoon only. Very supervised and somewhat slow. The cost of the Jet Ski and maintenance is outrageous so they want these ski's to last forever. Also, do we really want a bunch of jet ski's and wet bikes buzzing all around a nice calm lagoon?

Many of the local assocations such as the
"Te Roto O Opunohu" don't want jet skis and
the government leaders pay attention to the assocations
if they want to get relected. Thank God the fun cars are no longer
and many would like to see jet skis disappear as well.
If you want to jet ski FRench Polynesia isn't the place
you want to go. Please allow the "locals" to govern themselves
and don't expect them to make over FP to suit all
of the tourists.

Hamara, I can only hope that the local groups will ultimately prevail in their resolve to get rid of the jet skis, as these machines are so out of place in FP.

Sub--Cabo is the only place I've ever tried riding a jet ski (one time). I actually wished they would have had a little more supervision, it was a little crazy out there for me.

I agree with SusanS, as much as I love jetskis which I do often, they just don't really belong in FP. Most people go there to get away from all the noise and city chaos.

SUB...if you want to go crazy on jet skis and want little or no supervision, you need to try it in Mexico (Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatland) Have fun

By "crazy" I mean doing tricks and surf riding that I wouldn't be doing around others or in the lagoon. I think some of you are getting the wrong idea. I'm sure they won't let me jetski in the surf either, and that's fine if that is their rules. Anyone who has read my posts knows I'm all for them doing it the way they want to in FP. BUT if that's the way they do it, I won't be jetskiing thank you very much. I don't want a bunch of rentals with inexperienced people buzzing around in the lagoon either. I haven't been to Bora Bora yet, so I can't say if there is an appropriate area for them or not.
If you would like to see what I do, check http://www.submarineAZ.com

A friend of mine told me about a cool place in St. Maarten where they take you out in the surf and will let you get as big as you want. They have standups and Waveblasters too, excellent surf machines. I hope to make that trip sometime. Check out:

You will have to translate with Google.

I can't imagine you got very good instruction on the proper way to use PWC in Mexico SusanS. That would probably not be the best place for anyone their first time. People go nuts down there anyway. When I take mine to Puerto Penasco (no surf) we have to constantly watch out for the rentals. Not that fun, so I bought a Hobie Cat I'll probably use down there mostly instead.
I'll be in Oregon next month for a beach party. Plenty of good surf to ride there but it's COLD!!!
