Many years ago when we hadn't brought our no fog stuff for the masks, one of the native drivers told us to pick a leaf of a bush, crush it slightly, and rub the inside and outside of the mask..it worked perfectly. At home, I gab a leaf off a nearby orange tree, but any plant like that works great. It is not as long lasting as the creamy stuff you buy, but in a pinch it worked just fine.

Thanks for the tips!
Just checked out http://www.leisurepro.com and they have SOOOO Many different models of masks and snorkels. Any particular suggestions on models or price range to get something basic? What features (besides "Dry" snorkel" are essential? Thanks again in advance.

Toothpaste works well on masks too! Nothing fancy, just cheap, basic toothpaste!

The Sheraton Moorea let us check out the fins for the entire time we were there and we just returned it to the beach activities desk upon check out. Staff were very helpful on "sizing" our fins based on a visual inspection of our feet. The fins were in good condition so there's no need to bring your own from home.

Just a quick tip! If your going to purchase a mask for the trip, you should buy it at a local scuba shop. If you order it on-line you may not buy a mask that fits well. This is the leading cause of masks leaking. I dive shop will help you with the fit. Also you should wash the glass surface of any new mask with toothpaste a couple of times before using. All new masks have a factory sealent on them to protect them. If you do not wash the glass with a light abrasive (toothpaste), it will fog when you use it. Hope this helps!

I'd heard the same thing about ANY locations "borrow" equipement. We had "borrow" equipment when we snorkeled at Hanauma Bay in Oahu, and DH's mask kept leaking, so he was forever having to stop and surfact to get the water out. Try http://www.snorkelbob.com for great equipment (they're based in HI, but sell ANYWHERE). We used their rental equipment on MAUI, and had NO PROBLEMS with it. I'm planning on purchasing our own masks/snorkels to take with us, especially an Rx mask for DH so he can see all those FISHIES clearly !!!!
