We were surrounded by Lemons on most of our dives in BB. We had gotten used to the Black Tips on our first dive, in which no Lemons showed up. They did on the second dive, though and were MUCH larger and MUCH more intimidating than the Black Tips.. But they weren't aggressive, although they would get rather close to us.. Took a little getting used to having 8-11 foot Lemons circling ya.. No, never saw any Oceanic White Tips.. thank goodness..

Out diving we were just initially blown away by the size of the Lemons that we encountered.. plus they'd flash their teeth at ya when they swam by ya.. Plus, having studied sharks since Jaws came out I couldn't get out of my mind something I had read where Lemons were responsible for more attacks in Florida than any other species.. A lot of the Lemons we saw were pregnant females (or full of divers haha) and they seemed to hang in packs of three. They'd come in rela low over the reef right at us, show some teeth, then veer off. At 8-11 feet or so they definitely got our attention, but we did get comfortable with them by the second dive..

I did swim with couple of lemon sharks at lagoonarium Bora Bora. They looked big and bulky, and were about 6 feet long. Nobody got scared at all. We were actually bothered more by the aggressive stingrays. I was holding a peice of dead fish (given by the staff), and the stingrays swam right up to my body acting like begging me for food like a doggy. I was quite scared that they might sucked my fingers up in their mouths (lol).

Dinae - you'll be fine.. just takes a little getting used to. We're not one their menu and they behaved themselves like gentlemen and women in FP - can't help in Florida that they have no manners. Actually in Florida I want to say the attacks were NOT on divers - were on people on the surface in murky waters so that tells me more than likely a case of mistaken identity, which is the case behind most shark attacks..

you won't have any issue with murky water in FP and while diving sharks don't know what to think of you. Don't forget - sharks are afraid of bubbles so if one ever gets too close to ya be sure to exhale.. but I have a feeling you'll be hyperventilating and that won't be an issue! Just teasing - you'll be fine.. Since they weren't on our first dive we were a little shocked at how much larger and menacing looking they were as compared to the Black Tips. Over all they acted the same, tho.. very passive toward divers.. No worries.. and when they circle ya it's just to give you good photo ops..

LOL SST.. I just got a pic of me hyperventilating and forming a storm of bubbles around me!! thanks for the laugh!

I'm just glad I'll only have to deal with the black tip in the lagoon (right?).

If sharks are scared of bubbles.. why don't we create something that makes bubbles, lotsa them, and when you go fishing or swimming in Florida you just place that gadget next to you?

I have no idea.. I imagine if everyone was using htem the sharks would eventually get used to them, tho.. Actually we saw no sharks at all in our part of the lagoon, but we were at the Pearl where's there's pretty much nothing but sand which equals few fish.. We'd like to go to the other end of the island next time where there appears to be more coral and sea life..
