reubenray, Almost in the same boat. My wife is not a swimmer either. However I've made many dives. Alot in Cozumel, and Mexico over the years, plus other islands on our vacations. I've had 3 spinal surgeries and am now 61. Love to dive, but will not this trip in June. It is expensive. Try the resort course in Akumal. Never dove Akumal, but dove not far from there. I hear good things. If you have a good instructor they will help you in and out of the water. Just make sure you have a good mask and snorkel. You can always use that. The rest of the equipment you can rent with your resort dive package, if it's not included. If you do well in Akumal, then try a resort dive in FP. The resort dive's are a good intro. It's killing me that I'm going to pass up diving in FP. I will make it up snorkeling though, which I love. Gettin' lazy! Going to relax! Just happy to go! Good Luck!

Bob from NJ - will my personal snorkling mask and snorkle work for diving? They was bought from a dive shop and the snorkle(Ocean Master)is the type that water cannot get in.

reubenray---If your mask fits well, and you have no problem with leakage it should be fine. If you're comfortable with it snorkeling I don't see a problem. The snorkel should be fine also, as you only use it on the surface. If you try the resort course, they usually check you out in shallow water or a pool first. This way you get to adjust and get the feel of the gear. As I said before it's a good intro.

In Tahiti, all equipment is included in the cost of the dive. For a resort dive, the dive master wil give you a brief explanation and then you're off. These dives do not go below 20-25 feet or so. You can see plenty at this depth.
