Has anyone had a problem with baggage size on Air Tahiti? Our luggage is 3 inches over what they allow. I might get new luggage, but if no one has had a problem, why?

I'd contact them via email and ask. You won't believe what I've seen on those flights. (surfboards, fishing poles, etc.)

We did not have a problem with the dimensions of our luggage, but they are quite strict with the weight limits.

Depends on your itinerary. Please post all your islands, in the order you're travelling, and I'll post the cost per excess Kilo.
It's not a lot of money unless you're really overweight. I think people talk about it so muc because it's a pet peave for most of us to be charged for a few extra pounds of luggage when you're already paying a rather high airfare for the distance being travelled.

We fly in to Faa'a on ATN, and fly right out to Tikehau on AT. Then fly back to Faa'a 7 days later to board the TP. Thanks in advance.

The fee for excess baggage for that itinerary is 190cfp per excess Kilo, each way. So, let's say you're 10 kilos over (between the two of you). In that case you would pay 3800cfp in excess baggage fees round trip.
