We plan to do diving on Moorea and BB. Still new divers (this is our 2nd trip after certifying). Fiance' wants to see sharks. Was wondering if we'll see them diving, or if we should take one of the shark/ray feeding tours. We've both done stingray bay in the Camans, so Rays not a big deal.
I'd like to see turtles. Any recommendations for Moorea/BB?

We just returned From our trip even though the only scuba diving we did was on Bora Bora,(no Sharks)we did see them on the North side of Moorea. The water There was Unbelievable. We were in the water on Tahiti,Rangeroa,Tahaa,Raitea, and Moorea,But Moorea was the Clearest.

We dove in both Moorea and Bora Bora. We thought the diving in Moorea was a little better than Bora Bora, but we did see sharks in both places. It depends on which dive locations they take you to.

Plenty of sharks to be seen on Moorea dives. Just tell the dive operator and he will take you to one of the sites shark sites for diving. I can't remember right now, but I think there is one called the Tiki ( I would have to check my log book at home) that had a lot of sharks.

Imho, it's always more exhilerating to see sharks while diving rather than on a concocted shark-feeding tour. Also, on shark-feeds I think you will probably only see mostly black-tips. Diving will permit you to see lemons, grey reef sharks and maybe even a hammerhead if you're lucky, in addition to the blacktips.
Your chances of seeing them while diving in either Moorea or Bora Bora are close to certain. As posters stated above, just tell the divemaster that you want to go to a site with sharks and they will accommodate.
Also - fyi - seeing a manta ray with a 20 foot wingspan in French Polynesia is nothing like the southern stingrays at Stingray City in the Caymans. Both are great - but far different experiences.
Enjoy.

Okay - well maybe 20 foot is on the larger end. I would say 10 - 15 on average, though.

When i was diving in Moorea the divemaster told me not to worry,he said going to FP and not seeing a shark is like going to Australia and not seeing a kangaroo. If you want to see sharks you should not have a problem as long as you go on the ocean dives. They are everywhere.Tell whoever your dive guide is that you want to dive Tiki Point. The guy at Bathy's Club[the scuba shop at the Beachcomber in Moorea]told me there were more sharks in Moorea than Bora Bora.
