Sammy - oops mighta goofed up - haven't gone back and read... When you become DE-hydrated the blood thickens.. thats because the body loses water causing the blood to thicken. So, you wanna stay hydrated to keep the blood from thickening. Staying hydrated keeps the blood at the thickness its susposed to be at plus taking an aspirin helps to keep it a tad thinner allowing better off-gassing - or allowing nitrogen to be passed out of the system. If you were to become dehydrated, the blood would thicken, circulation would slow down as a result (mud doesn't move as fast as water) and you'd have a much better chance of decompression sickness, embolism or blood clot because the blood was already thick - at that stage doesn't take too much to throw a clot.. Sorry if I messedy ou up on that one.. Staying hydrated keeps the blood from thickening, aspirin helps to keep it thinner which is better for circulation and diving..
You'll be fine.. just don't overdo it and protect yourself with the methods I've described cause nobody else will make sure you are. the dive masters should all take 3 minutes safety stops so just stay with them.. You'll love it - just do it safely.. and yes, probably a good idea to stop smoking although I know plenty of smokers who dive with no issues.. I'm ultra conservative these days so I tend to be more safe about it than most.. If you haven't dove in 12 years then yeah it'd be a good idea to at least get in a pool with gear on and get a feel for it again - get used to bouyancy again and review the basic skills like clearing your mask of water etc..
Take care and keep on asking if needed.. Steve

Thank you Steve! Now it's all clear.
Will anyway report on my trip once I'm back (I'm going in August so won't be in a while).
A guy working with us (experienced diver - not PADI another less 'recreational' type) and smoker used to say that at 60 m deep, the tar and other "stuff" comes off from smokers' lungs. I took his word for it since I won't make it that far down (nor I have desire to).. but I just thought it might be interesting to know.
Take care!!
D.

Yeah we didn't do any dives deeper than 80 feet - not sure how many meters that is but I'm sure it ain't close to 60.. Most dives would start that deep, but themajority of the dives were spent at 40-50 ft range which is fairly shallow and easy.. No problems, man.. you'll love it..! I gotta start on a trip report some day here and now have 1300 photos to process.. yikes!
Take care and holler if you need to .. Steve

60m is over 190 feet. You'd have many more worries than tar coming off your lungs if you made it down to that depth using a regular air tank. Perhaps making it back to the surface alive would be one. Also, the narcosis at the depth is probably so great that you would think you are having fairies swimming out of your lungs - let alone tar.

Jarred, the person I was talking about is a professional diver (not a recreational dive master) as in the type of guy that goes to fix & do studies waaay below our comfort level.
I know that you mean though, for a regular person like you and I, an open water certification is enough.
