I am going to Bora Bora June 5-12 (staying at the IC Thalasso Spa Resort). Any input on what to wear diving? Is a skin appropriate or shall I bring a 3mm? What is the water temp that time of year? Thanks so much for any help!

I dove in Tikehau and Taha'a last month and was comfortable in a 3mm wetsuit. The Tikehau divemaster also wore a 3mm; at Taha'a, the divemaster wore a shorty. Most of the other divers wore wetsuits; however, one dove in a bathing suit and T-shirt and seemed to be comfortable.

Really depends on depth but I have friends that dive in the Florida keys without wetsuits and the water temp in and around FP is at least 5 degrees warmer at its coldest.

The wetsuit is more for protection, rather than warmth. It would be wise to wear a long wetsuit or at the very least knee guards, especially on shark feeding dives or if your are taking photos.

Just got back and I used a full 1mm neoprene skin. I was very comfortable.

The lagoons are very warm, however if you dive outside the reef, it is another story. The Pacific has warm and cold currents and some of the passes can be a little chilly. Rangiroa's Tiputa pass was a little cold when we were there in July...we actually started turning blue after a couple of hours. I wish we would have had something more than a lycra skin.

Just got back from BB last night. Water temps were 83 to 86 degrees and a dive skin was perfect.. everyone else was wearing wetsuits, but e just wore lycra skins and were very comfy.. Gotta check my log book, but one dive you GOTTA do - Tipua I think, but hafta check - tons of black tips, Lemon sharks and awesome reefs - tons of fish, eels etc.. very impressed with BB diving - actually much better than Rangiroa...

OOh I just cannot wait to go! It's my honeymoon/wedding as well so I'm not going to dive everyday, I want to relax a lot, but, it sounds fantastic!

Thank you all for your input.

Vicki - after your first dive (if its a good one) you'll probably wanna do one tank per day at least.. VERY good diving.. I had always heard the diving off DD was average, but if you hit the right reefs its spectacular. We DID do one bogus, lame dive there - I'll need to check my log book to get the name, but you'll wanna try to avoid that one like we did after we did it once.. I'll get back with ya..
