Please recommend dive shops on Moorea and Bora Bora for nervous newbies!

My husband and I just finished the 1st half of the scuba class, and our certification dives will be completed (hopefully) the week before we leave for FP.
Can anyone recommend dive shops for us? I might literally need my hand held, and we would prefer a place that will be patient and dive to a more conservative depth.

The best thing to do would be to probably avoid the cattle-boats. It's easy to get lost in the crowd since the DMs are supervising lots of divers. Find a small boat with a good DM to diver ratio. I used the dive operation at the Pearl in Moorea (I think Moorea Blue or something) and Bora Dive (near the Hotel Bora Bora) in Bora Bora and found both to be good. The diving in both Bora Bora and Moorea is fairly easy, so it should be a good place for you to get your fins wet. The viz is just about as good as you'll find anywhere, the water is warm, the currents are usually slim, and the depths are usually conservative.

Jarred's right - the diving is as easy as you'll ever find it in BB. Haven't been to Moorea yet, but BB is a snap to dive. We stayed at the Pearl in BB and the dive shop there is awesome. The owner literally would take people who had never dove before and hold onto them while breathing off the same regulator setup - one off the primary, the other off the octopus. They took great care of the newbies and found dive sites that were great for both newbies and vets. So, nothing but good things to say about them - Blue Nui Divers..

We have used both Moorea Fun Dive and Moorea Blue (The Pearl Resort). We preferred Moorea Fun dive as they tend to keep their numbers smaller. Both operations were curtious and professional.

I don't think there's a bad one to be found. And no cattle boats. About the most I've ever dived with was 15 folks. Most dives are about 7-10.
And they always put on extra DMs when there were greater numbers of divers. never more than 5 persons per DM.

Gracenrich. Yeah Gilles, the manager at Blue Nui in BB let me borrow his personal set of split fins after I lost one in Rangi.. Plus we never had more than 4 other divers on any dive we did and on several it was just us and the DM.. They were one of the best operations and msot laid back that I've dove with - and Gilles had slpit fins for HIS foot injury and wore crap fins and gave me his the netire trip because of MY foot injury.. THATS pretty friggen cool..

We were new divers in '98 and did our certifying open water dives in Manihi, and then were diving in Rangi, Moorea, and Bora Bora. We found all of them to be very professional (and careful) with us as new divers. We are going this August (only 30 days!) and our 14 year old son will do his open water certifying dives with Moorea Fun Dive. They will take good care of you.

Okay I have to chime in here.. not to be a "debbie downer" or anything but Bora Divers at the HBB took me out with a few other people in questionable conditions. There were 10 to 12 foot crashing swells nearing the pass, that they plowed through, with everyone beginning to turn green, just to do a nice, run of the mill outer reef dive with a few sharks. My legs we being put to the test, nearing exhuastion, just try to maintain balance. Getting in the water was fine.. getting back on the boat was an experience. Thanks goodness they had the sense to help us off with our gear while we were still in the water- something I was taught you should never do. But frankly that's the only way we would have been able to get back up on that roller coaster of a stern. And for what ? The dive we did next, inside the reef was just as nice with just as many sharks and coral and fish..So I think they exercised poor judgement fighting to get outside the reef. And to top it off they used up all their gas doing so, and we ran out of fuel in the middle of the lagoon and had to wait for them to change over to a spare tank. At least they had foreseen that one, by have the tank onboard...
