What sorts of things do you like to do? Have you been to California before?

Spend a day at the races at Santa Anita, we had a splendid day out. Take a drive along the coast around the Palos Verde area, we saw the most fantastic sunset. Go whale watching from Long Beach (if its the right time of year).

Go to venice beach it's great for people watching! You will see all kinds of freaks there. Then right down the beach from there is the Santa monica peir,it' like an amusuement park.I see movie stars allmost every time I go there. Then if you head down Santa Monica Blvd there is great shoping & places to eat.If you keep on going down the Blvd you end up near Beverly Hills. It's fun to just drive around and look at all the mansons and movie stars houses.Just remember the traffic is like no other place on this earth (mabe New York or big citys like that). It can take a long time to just go a couple of blocks. So give your self time so you don't stress.

For 4 days, I would consider going up the caost. Stop at the Hearst Castle, Monterey and San Francisco.

Romantic Soul, what time of the year will you be in Los Angeles? I agree with Return - the California coast is beautiful, especially Santa Barbara and Carmel. A drive to San Diego would also be enjoyable. Los Angeles is pretty big and public transportation is not as reliable as in other cities so you might want to plan on renting a car. There's a ton of choices: from sporting events to museums, from canyons to deserts, from clubs to concerts, from excellent ethnic restaurants to churches of all faiths, etc. What would be of interest to you both? The Los Angeles Times (Calendar section) or the LA Weekly usually have listings of the current events.

We'll be coming in July.
Steph We like shopping, amusement parks hmmm eating at different places, lots of great things.
Blueman, thanks for your suggestions. We were in NY last year but people have told us it's much different to LA, the reason we're stopping in LA is to break the journey to Tahiti but we thought it would be nice to incorporate into our honeymoon a short city break. We're pretty young (both 25ish) I admit, your suggestions are very tempting

If you like shopping (on the expensive side) visit the Rodeo Drive area in Beverly Hills. For amusement parks, try Magic Mountain (Valencia), Disneyland (Anaheim) or Universal Studios (Universal City). Good eats in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Ventura Blvd. among many others.

I would spend a few day in LA. Go to BH and have dinner, go to Malibu and have dinner, drive up to Santa Barbara one morning (2 hour drive) and maybe spend the night or go to Laguna or Newport Beach and spend the night. Its all very do able in 4 days. Get an LA guide book and a Zagat guide and you will be fine. A lot of good bars and clubs in LA as well so you can do a lot. Its not New york as far as night life but its pretty good.
