Overwater bungalows-some not directly over water?

In my travel itinerary for the Beachcomber Moorea, it said most overwater bungalows are not directly over water. The back of the bungalow is on land. This is a concern because if I am going to pay premium prices I would like my entire bungalow to be directly over water. Does anyone have any input on this or perhaps I'm being too picky?

I agree that an overwater bungalow should be over the water! The Beachcomber is the only resort on Moorea like this. If its important to you, make sure you check out the other resorts on the island with true OWB's.

They have a few entirely over water but the majority of them are as you described. It is a great hotel but it thats what you dream about doing a complete OW try the Sheraton, Pearl Beach or the Sofitel.

The Sheraton has great OWB's that are spacious and well appointed with all the ammenities. The glass bottom table is a nice feature as well. It is a great experience that was one of the highlights of our trip. If you are paying premium prices then consider another resort.

When we went we were also concerned about the OWB being entirely over the water! We did decide to stay at the Beachcomber anyway, and it was the best decision ever! The beachcomber is beautiful and so is it's lagoon, and they have I believe 4 OWB that are true OWB, we politely requested one of them via email and confirmed it via email a couple times, and when we got there to check in, we pointed out that we had requested a true OWB, and sure enough, it was in our paperwork and we got it! Truly spectacular! You can go to the BC's website and pull up their map which shows the layout of their bungalows and then pick the # you want, we emailed 3 choices, all in order of preference and we got our first choice...now this does'nt happen all the time, depends on how booked they are, and be forwarned, we had a bit longer wait to get into our room when we got there, but we relaxed by the pool and had cocktails until we got in and it was well worth the wait! I will also say that the bungalows that are part on land are also amazing! Good luck, relax and have a wonderful time!!!!

The OWB's at Club Bali Hai are also with their backside on land. This means that you get more of the sounds of water lapping on the shore and on the pilings, particularly when the Ono Ono Ferry goes by several times a day.

The Beachcomber looks rundown like its hey day was in the 60s or 70s. Its so old it looks like it is almost back in style. I dont think that it is nice at all. The Sheraton and the Pearl seemed MUCH nicer, newer with real OWB. The BC also had so much stuff going on between the dolphin show, water sports. etc. For the $$ dont stay there!

Rundown? Considering that they recently spent hundreds of dollars refurbishing and remodeling I would hardly think so. I've heard a lot of things about the Beachcomber but being "rundown" is not one of them. I saw it before the remodeling and I would never have thought that. It is true that the OW bungalows are only partially OW. If that is a real concern then one of the other resorts would be a better choice.

Maybe rundown was a bit strong. I guess I meant to say dated. It was clean, it just looked liked my parents would have vacationed there 30 years ago. The whole decor of the place just didnt seem modern to me.

I disagree witht the recent comments about the Beachcomber, I know, each to his own, but the Beachcomber is a beautiful resort, and they have obviously worked hard on keeping a "Tahitian" feel. It is spotless, well appointed, beautifully kept gardens, and very efficient! We loved it! And again, each to his own, but saying it is dated is just not right at all!
