I'm glad that you had a great time at the BC. And it is true that everyones defintion of what a place should or should not be is different. But, to me, compared to the 1.5 year old Sheraton and the 1 year old Pearl the BC is no comparison. It does have a Tahitian feel, 1972 Tahiti! The hundreds of dollars spent on their renovation really doesnt show. I agree, it is clean and the grounds arent bad (though the beach is a little weak)and I cannot speak about its efficiency. I think for the $$ you get can get a much newer hotel with equally if not more lavishly appointed grounds, a true OWB, a world class spa and better, clearer water and snorkeling at the Sheraton or Pearl.

Johnsen, when was the last time you were at the Beachcomber? I thought it was beautiful, and so where it's surrounding lagoons! Snorkling was wonderful!

Johnson you might get all of those things at the Sheraton but you will also pay dearly for them since the Sheraton is the priciest resort on Moorea. As far as the Pearl Beach goes, while being new it is not in the same category as the Sheraton or the Beachcomber. My TA stayed there and she said that the snorkeling is not the best. Did you actually see the interior of the bungalows at the Beachcomber since you didn't stay there? I'm just wondering what you're basing these observations on. The beachcomber was described as being VERY dated prior to the remodel but you're the first I've heard make that comment since the remodel.

The Beachcomber is a very nice hotel. The rennovations done last year where to update the bungalows. They updated the furniture and decor and add air conditioning. The common areas such as the lobby and restaurants did not get a make over. Sure its a little dated in respect to walls are a little darker and some of the pictures are more traditional but its a great hotel. The Sheraton is a much smaller property but the lobby and common area is very nice and is very similar in style to the Hotel Bora Bora. The Pearl Beach is much newer and the lobby and common area is very nice and open. It does seem to lack a little of the polynesia decor but very nice. True the best snorkeling in Moorea near a hotel is the Sheraton but in my opinion (I have stayed at all three) they all have their own charm and feel. One is not better than the other unless the 70's tiki look makes you puck than you may have a problem. Besides the Tiki look is coming back so maybe in a few months we will be talking about how cool the Beachcomber is compared to the old Sheraton.

I agree with you PA. It is all a matter of taste, but the "Tiki" thing as you call it to me is Kitchy Tahitian, that looked in style last in the 70s. The Sheraton and Pearl are more modern and stylish. Maybe it is back in style...who the heck knows? And the prices at the BC and Sheraton were identical when I booked. I originally was booked at the BC, but because of somethings that I heard, we changed. When we got there, we breathed a sigh of relief that we werent staying there. It isnt a bad hotel, but for the same $$ I think that there are at least two better options. But like I said each to their own...I am sure that one person's garbage is another's art...or whatever that saying is....
