We're scheduled to go from LAX to Papeete in June on the 8:45 pm Air New Zealand Flight.
We're coming from Chicago. Due to wedding committments, the earliest we can get to LAX is a flight that lands at 7:00 pm in LAX.
Is 1 h 45 min enough time to check-in for the Air New Zealand Flight to Tahiti?
Thanks

Hi
Official Minimum coonnect time Domestic to International in LAX in 1 hour 35 mins.
If booked on the same PNR its a guaranteed connection and fine. Ask your TA. If there is an earlier flight then go it!
Cheers

Don't wish to alarm you but if your domestic carrier does not have an agreement with ANZ you will have to retrieve your luggage at baggage claim.
If they do have an agreement, your bags will be checked thru, but you will still be faced with getting from the domestic to the international terminal, checking in with ANZ (and they may close down checkin well before departure), plus the endless security lines. These days at LAX, anything less than 3 hours is really pushing it for an international connection.
If you can't get an earlier flight, can you delay a day or two? When we went after our wedding a few years ago, we rushed our trip the day after the wedding. Consequently, we were exhausted for the first three days of our trip...
Congrats on your wedding but do what you can to save yourself the stress about flights (and high likelihood you will miss it)

... I can't believe that both the posters above are considering that 1h 45 mn. between flights is ok!!! What world do you live in???
Your domestic flight should land in LAX no later than 2 1/2 hours prior to your international flight, even if you check the luggage in your departing city. Flights are delayed all the time ("alert!!...close the airport, we have found TWEEZERS in hand luggage !!!") and you need to take a shuttle between terminals in LAX which can take up to 45 minutes. Also, I have stood in line at LAX for over an hour going through security. So, plz be smart and realistic or you may spend your honeymoon in LA Airport.

Actually, I was attempting to point out all of the reasons why 1h45min was not nearly enough time.... sorry you didn't get that out of my post. Between baggage reclaim, getting around the airport, and then security, not nearly enough time.

Maybe this would be a good time to seriously pare down your luggage into the "one plus" carryon they allow (assuming you aren't going for longer than 8 or 9 days. Then you wouldn't have any baggage to claim. You could always pack the bare minimum, and plan on buying clothes there (won't you anyway?). Stuff an empty duffel bag in one suitcase for the trip back.
We flew October 2001 so just after 9/11 when security was even more screwed up than now. I thought the International check in went relatively smooth with no long line at LAX. It would have helped having a map of the layout of LAX before since International flights are at Tom Bradley. See the map here: http://www.lawa.org/lax/laxframe.html
I think you are pushing it but if you have no other choice, make some adjustments so you won't waste any time.

I disagree with the above posters. You should be able to check your luggage straight through, especially if you are flying United. ANZ does not leave from Bradley terminal and at that time of night you should be fine to get through security. With the federal screeners things are going much smoother and lines are not too bad, except Monday mornings and Friday afternoons. Technically, you are going from one gate to another, which in many airports means you don't have to be rescreened. But, LAX has you exit one terminal to another. And, whoever waited 45 minutes for a shuttle must be handicapped. You can walk from end of the airport to the other in less time. The only thing to worry about would be weather delays out of Chicago.

The problem is, that the intl flights close their check in one hour prior to departure. So, they would have to be there by 7:45 pm. Can they get from landing in LAX to the ANZ terminal in 45 minutes? Possibly. But what if their flight is delayed 1/2 hour taking off from ORD? What if they have to wait on the tarmac at LAX for a gate? What if they aren't flying UA? American ORD flights arrive on the opposite side of where ANZ is. So either they take their chances on so many variables and might luck out! Worse case, they have quite a sprint to the terminal! Well, worse case is they miss their flight completely!!
There was a woman on this board a year or so ago who wrote that ANZ did not let her on her plane, even though she checked in in time, but did not present herself at the gate in time for departure as she was gift shopping or something in the stores..
Oh, another variable. Security lines at the ANZ terminal. Could take a bit of time, but who knows..

Are you sure ANZ isn't out of Tom Bradley? I was told all international flights were.
