Tracerman,

We live in Charleston, SC, but I grew up in Memphis so that is where we are getting married. Memphis is a great town. I miss it!

This is an interesting topic. We were advised to recheck our bags at LAX by our TA, we flew Continental from Baton Rouge. The check in rep would not let us "short check" the bags, said we had to check them all the way to Papeete. We had no problems with the bags in any event. I would interested to see if anyone else had a similar experience.

Wow....May 10th seems to be a popular date to get married....I am also getting married May 10th in Birmingham, AL.
I will be flying US Air to LAX...I have read about United checking the baggage through to ATN, but does anyone know if US Air will do the same?
Congratulations to all who are getting married next Saturday.

Just remember that on your way back, you *will* have to claim your bags in LAX, and then transfer them to your next flight. All bags get re-checked in LAX coming back.

Just be aware that, although your airlines might let you check your luggage through on the way to Papeete, on the way back from LAX to your domestic connection (especially United), they might all of a sudden tell you in LAX, NO! You have to lug this luggage personally down to the domestic terminal and check it in yourself (standing on yet another long LAX line)... Sad, but true; it depends on what the security alert is going through that day. Might not happen at all, but allow time for it on your way back! (This has happened to us on 3 of the last 5 trips since 9/11.)

I'm planning a 10th anniversary trip to Bora Bora in September and plan to finalize booking tomorrow. I found out that Air New Zealand and United are travel partners, so I'm booking Lincoln to LA on United, then ANZ to Papeete. (Might as well get credit for the miles if I'm going that far!) I'm expecting that they'll be able to check our bags all the way to Papeete, but if they don't it won't be that big a problem. Last summer I flew to LA to meet my brother on Midwest Express, then switched airlines in LA to fly to Alaska. It wasn't that hard to find your way around the terminals--lots of signs. I just hopped on the terminal bus and rode around the horseshoe till it came to the terminal I needed.
