Wondering about ferry schedule between Papeete and Moorea during Heiva Festival. Noticed that during the regular schedule, last departure is around 17:00. During the festival, are there later departures? If not, is there another way to get to Moorea late? Cost? Thanks a bunch.

Ferry schedules shouldn't change during festival. Only other way to Moorea is via air, I believe they have later flights. Check the schedule on the airtahiti website, which will also give you the cost.

So what do all the locals do when they are all stuck in Papeete? There are only so many uncles and aunties. Besides, who minds the store back home in Moorea?

Everyone goes on Strike for that week and if you do not make it home to Moorea your wife will understand.

I have a question (this is my first post here--you guys have great answers!). We're flying into Papeete (in the wee hours of the morning) and want to take the ferry to Moorea. Do we book it ahead of time or just show up? We're going mid-November so I assume it won't be busy (or will it?). I would think we'd be taking the first ferry over.

You can purchase the tickets the same day. Just make sure you do not get on the car ferry. It takes about an hour and half versus 20 minutes

Thanks. So do you think we'd have any problem getting on the first non-car ferry of the day? I'm just thinking that a lot of people will have flown in overnight. I guess it doesn't much matter as we can't check in to the Beachcomber until 1 p.m. anyway (well, we can check in, but not get into our room) so it wouldn't be the end of the world to wait for a later ferry, would it?

Don't worry about the ferry. They are so frequent that there is always plenty of room. In the mornings, the commuters from Moorea to Papeete will probably crowd those ferries, but yours is empty - I bet.
