Hi All,
We arte shoestringing it to Moorea and Huahine. Our budget is about CFP 6000/nt. I've checked out the camping areas and their bungalows, and Mark's looks nice but is a bit out of the way for us as we have friends that will be slumming it over at the Sheraton. So are there any other nice little places I should check out other than the camping spots or Mark's? We are not camping, so we'll need a bungalow.
Thanks!

You may be hard pressed to find alot of choices with that budget in mind. Remember that hitch hiking is safe on Moorea so Mark's place may be a good choice.

If you want to be close to the Sheraton there is the dorm at Te Motu Iti. There are a couple of other places in that area.

As a part time resident of Moorea hitch hiking is safe on Moorea. I've been doing it for over 25 years on the island without any problems. In my opinion!!!

We hitch hiked in Moorea this past September and it was perfectly safe. Our hotel even suggested it instead of paying for a taxi.

mr bond!....i was in moorea last month and stayed at motu iti in the dorm.it is a 15 minute walk to the sheraton. i was very satisfied and found it fit my needs. i was on my own but if my husband was with me, it would not be for him. my husband arrived a few weeks later and we stayed at les tipaniers. we had a beach bungalow (#12) there and it was $150 USD/ night. refer to jan prince's tahiti guide. every resort is well referenced with prices, contacts, etc. unless you hit le truck during their ferry run schedule there is no public bus for the island.i walked from motu iti to pao pao/cook's bay and bought a few things from the market there, took photos on the way...a few miles, a good walk. on the return i hoped to see le truck and flag him down but i lucked out. i bought a chicken from "tivany, steve is his american name he says" who is the man selling "chinese chicken" along the road next to the pao pao market. he was closing his truck as he had sold his last chicken and offered to drive me back to motu iti. he told me about his life, pointed to where he lives and explained his chicken business, cooking etc. and how he enjoys his retirement. what a gift to have met such an interesting local.BTW, his chicken is delicious!

We also stayed at the Pension Motu Iti in August and LOVED IT! The owners Auguste and Dori were most gracious, the snorkeling was FABULOUS! We took kayaks (free if staying at the Motu Iti) and went to the Sheraton to hang out and snorkel, about a 10 minute kayak ride, but preferred the snorkeling right by the Pension better. Our beach front bungalow was $120 a night, they also offer garden bungalows and a dorm which I think you would like. They have a website just google Pension Motu Iti Moorea. I don't think you'll be dissappointed and it is very near the Sheraton for a fraction of the cost. We loved it so much that we plan to go back there.

Thanks Maureen and TB. Motu Iti looks great, even though it is just above our budget. Budgets are meant to be stretched though right?
Has anyone seen or stayed at Fare OA OA (www.magicmoorea.com/fareoaoa/visite.htm)? The website is in French, which I cannot understand. I'm wondering if they have dorms, a guest house, bungalows, etc...looks like next to Sheraton too and within the budget.
We are leaving Dec 2, and this is our first time west of LA! lol
