Is it possible to take a day trip to Huahine from either Bora Bora or Moorea? We are staying on those islands but my finace loves to surf and I've read Huahine is the best place to surf. Depending on your recommendations and comments I might change my plans. Please contribute your thoughts. Thanks!

It would be expensive, a flight from either is around $110 per person. You would also need to arrange a transfer to the beach breaks and out to the reef to surf.

We were in Moorea around the first of this month (February). There was allot of surfing out off the reef. It looked pretty exciting from where we were...Dr. Poole's Dolphin excursion - also great! Moorea is a great island.

I just got the new Tahiti Beach Press and they have an ad in it for day tours to other islands Huahine was 23,600 cfp per person. So it is expensive.

Im not sure why you think it's expensive.. Does the 23600 price include the airfare from PPT which is a little less than 20000 per person round trip anyway?...I think it also includes transportation and lunch usually. More than likely it includes day use of a resort there. You didn't mention the origination of the flight in any case. One can also buy their own ticket from BB to huahine as well which would be considerably cheaper.
maybe you are looking at it in the manner of 'if you spend the money for the airfare why not just stay there for a few days or overnight' which I would agree, but that price is really no more different or prohibitive than what one would spend anyway.

For $400 for a couple for just the day and lunch is pretty high. I would rather spend a few days on the island and enjoy it.

How long are you staying for your honeymoon? That would influence my decision as to a day drip to Huahine or not. It seems like too much traveling in one day. It's the getting to the airport and waiting around and the transportation that adds to the time element. I would also say to stay for a couple of days. And if money is an issue, there are inexpensive places to stay in Huahine.

I'm pretty sure the original poster has come and gone from FP years ago (the original post was in 2003)!

LOL Old Wife... any case surfing is best done in Teahupoo, Tahiti iti, last week htere was another "natural phenomena", waves up to the sky so to speak, the surfers went beserk and had a couple of wonderful days with incredible waves. Unfortunately downside being that there is no more beach at the pointe Matira in Bora Bora (the Hotel BB even had to close their bar) and 3 airports closed in the Tuamotus but apart from that not as much damage as 2 years ago. It occurs every 2 years or so.
