We are trying to decide on an itinerary for our honeymoon. Looks like we will go 1st to BB, Huahine, and last Moorea. We just have to decide how to split the time. Can anybody give us information about Huahine and the different activities that we can do there? Is 4 nights too much for this island? Thanks for the info!

Every island has about the same activities. I think Moorea and Huahine are the better islands for the 4 x 4 tours and Bora Bora and Huahine are great for the snorkel tours and Shark Feeding - Actually Moorea has a good ray and shark feeding excursion. On Huahine a good 4x4 tour is Huahine Explorer. They take you to the highest peak in Huahine and you can see Tahaa and if very clear Bora Bora. Also the Motu Picnic/circle island tour by Paco at Huahine Natiques is great as well. I highly recommend this tour on Huahine. If I where you I would do one activity per island. 4x4 tour on Moorea, Shark Feeding in Bora and Motu Picnic on Huahine

We haven't booked yet but most likely the Relais Mahana. Do you know anything about that resort? i hear it is a family resort. Should we stay away from that? we will be on our honeymoon but want to splurge on BB in an OWB. from what i've read, the relais mahana is located in an isolated area. we are looking for relaxation here and my fiance loves to surf, we hear it is a good surf spot.

The hotel is located in a very nice bay. Its a long way from the small town of Fare so you are isolated. The resort/hotel is a three star hotel so do not expect anything too fancy. The new owners or managers are much much better than the previous bunch so its nice. Great beach and the restaurant is fairly good. Mostly French and Italian tourist here and they do have activities direcly from the hotel. Surf wise you have a pass not too far but you will need a boat to get to it from the hotel or the shore. You can call Huahine Natiques in Huahine and he can arrange for a pick up for a cost.

We stayed at the Relais Mahana in September and were somewhat disappointed in the accomodations..none of the rooms, beach, or garden, have windows! There is one big sliding door to the outside. There is airconditioning but we found it to be rather inadequate. All in all, the rooms are Best Western type--nothing unique or South Pacific about them, clean, comfortable and plain. The snorkeling is great right off the beach, management and staff are very helpful. You really should rent a car if you are that far from Fare. Be sure and take a tour around the island..Pension Poetaina had a great tour and someone who tells all the legends and stories of old times.

We also stayed at the Pension Maurarii in one of the two "beach rooms"--with private bathroom. The only thing we didn't figure out was that the private bathroom was not connected! The toilet was in a separate area from the room..though the room had a shower and sink. It is small, also on the same bay, also good snorkeling at both of these places on the same bay.

We loved Huahine, it does grow on you, and is very different from the hustle and bustle of Bora Bora and Moorea. Depending on where you are staying on Bora Bora and Huahine, you would probably have more of a "honeymoon" experience on those islands, but Huahine is different and lovely and laid back and etc. etc. etc.

I stayed at the Relais earlier this year and it was by far our favourite place of the trip. Rooms are basic, but the location was the best of the trip and the staff and food were great. Very peaceful and very beautiful. The bungalows are simple and clean and by no means a match for a swish place on Bora Bora, but I just loved it. We did trips with both Huahine Explorer and Huahine Nautique and both were great. In comparison to Shark feeding on Bora Bora the Sharks on Huahine were much bigger and more of them and the snorkelling on that trip was amamzing. The other guests were mainly french. We had an elderly couple from Normandy staying on oneside and we met three women and their respective partners travelling in a group from just outside paris in the bungalows on the other side. We spoke to an American couple and I noticed another american family with a couple of kids aged around 8 to 11. They were the only children there during our stay. I would say its not really a honeymoon resort, in fact its not a resort at all, but if its relaxation and beautiful surroundings you are after without spending a fortune its a great place. Especially if you are splurging out in Bora Bora.

We were not there on a sat night so I'm afraid we did not see the show or eat the buffet. However, the food at Relais Mahana is of a high standard No where else did I see lamb chops on the menu and for this reason I expected them to be not terribly good, I could not have been more wrong. All the food was melt in the mouth and so I imagine the buffet is equally good. The restaurant is nice and spacious so there would be plenty of room for dancing. The restaurant is definitely worth a visit if you are on Huahine.

We went to Huahine with the sailboat we had chartered and stayed in Avea Bay (where the resort is located) 2 nights. We loved it there. It's a really fantastic spot. My impression of the resort was that it was pretty much just a bunch of huts on the beach. So, if you're going to want service and amenities, etc, it's probably not the place. That said, I've talked to my wife about going back and staying there. Here's my FP photo album with some pics from Avea Bay:
