And, if you do enjoy excursions, there truly are plenty there to choose from. My husband falls into the "gotta keep busy" crowd, and there was plenty there for him to choose from; Huahine is still his favorite island. Perhaps there is a plethora of laid-back activities?

I'd agree with the other posters on the FP-of-the-past feel... and it is slow, dreamy, and romantic. I'd just argue that there is actually far more to do and many more places to wander than we may realize: we poked about in Fare (wonderful roulottes), scootered around the islands, walked by the ocean and shelled, snorkelled, fed the sharks, visited a pearl farm, etc. The nice thing is that many of these things you can arrange for yourself, whenever you want, which probably contributes to the laidback quality.

I love Huahine.....it is so relaxed, lush, and tropical. I would highly recommend it to anyone going to the FP. My boyfriend and I will definetly go back to Huahine just as soon as we can.

In my opinion, I preferred Huahine over Bora Bora, believe it or not....Other than the infamous Bora Bora lagoon, I was not impressed with the island...Huahine has a lot of culture and is, as someone else said, very pristine...if you're looking for nightlife, forget about it...there just isn't any....I stayed at the Relais Mahana and loved it....very relaxing and the beach was beautiful....good luck in your planning.

My favorite island. We rented a car, found a beach for the afternoon and never seen another traveler. Just a couple of locals boating past.
