Has anyone rented the Huahine Beach House?www.huahinebeachhouse.com/ My wife and I were wondering about staying there since we have a 2 year old and an owb wouldn't be safe enough for a baby.

I have not rented it but was curious about it when I was in Huahine this year. It looks really nice from the outside. You are very close to a nice beach as well as to "downtown." I hope the person who rented that was on this board responds. I remember them saying that they were very satisfied. We shopped in the markets every morning and the grocery store probably has everything that you need. The only thing that is strange is the milk because it is in sealed cartons on the regular shelves-not refrigerated. I saw the same thing in Costa Rica and my son said that is the way the milk is in Chile also. I don't know what that means .So if milk is of a concern, I would find out what this milk is. There is plenty of cheese, yogurt, and delicious fruit juices which should tide you over for the time that you are there. I'm curious about the milk if anyone can explain it.

Also check out the Villas Bouganiville.....the family is wonderful and the 3 bungalows are meant to be very comfortable. The family has children of their own and of course your little one will be included into into the family circle. Terrific that you are going to FP, visiting Huahine, and taking your baby!! Greet our friend Maeva and her family if you stay at Villas Bouganville...........OH, by the way, you have the use of a car when you are their guests.

The house for rent on Huahine is very nice. I have been inside. Its right on the beach a few steps from the Old Bali Hai beach and a few more steps to town. Its two bedrooms and only one of the bedrooms has AC. A large downstairs with tv,dvd and vhs and a full kitchen. They also have a large patio with a bar b que. All tile floor and its not all too fancy but a nice place. Villa Bouganiville is a different experience. A great house on a hill with a lot of flat land around it. Not too close to the water and you have the use of a car and boat. You are in the bay and not on the ocean and its much more slower on that side. Either one is a great choice for renting with a kid.

We've been to Huahine before we had our son. We stayed at the Te Tiare in an owb. Loved it. We'd take a boat into town (Fare?) for dinner at Timpanier. Is this house in Fare? Hope it's not close to where the supply boats dock and fuel!

It's a little ways away. I would say a few blocks by walking on the beach from the end of downtown-if you are coming from the Te Tiare and heading towards town you keep going.I hope someone answers about the boats because I don't know.

Holte, I too am curious about the milk. It is the same stuff that I used to buy in France 20 years ago (still there now), and I know it is "shelf stable." When we were in France recently we got "lait frais" that was per the store owner "direct from the cow" (non-Pasteurized)at the local store. I remember for years the concept seeming strange that Louis Pasteur invented "Pasteurization" sp? yet in France the milk was either shelf stable (box, not in a fridge, how this works I have no idea) or lait frais (no stabilizing agents). Whatever, we went with it and no one including our child suffered from ill effects. So I am curious too - if anyone knows please share.

There are 3 sorts of milk you will find: -Non pasteurised milk or Lait cru in french -Pasteurised milk, refrigerated -Long life pasteurised milk (in caryon, on non refrigerated shelves) We find all 3 in Europe, I'm surprised you don't have the long-life one in the US...
anyway, here is what you can find on wikipedia:
Pasteurization Pasteurization is used to kill harmful microorganisms by heating the milk for a short time and then cooling it for storage and transportation. Pasteurized milk is still perishable and must be stored cold by both suppliers and consumers. Dairies print expiration dates on each container, after which stores will remove any unsold milk from their shelves. In many countries it is illegal to sell milk that is not pasteurized.
Milk may also be further heated to extend its shelf life through ultra-high temperature treatment (UHT), which allows it to be stored unrefrigerated, or an even longer lasting sterilization process

A school trip from my home town a couple of decades ago went to a local farm where the school kids drank unpasteurized milk. Several of them ended up with kidney failure because of it. It's not a chance I would ever take for myself or kids.
We have normal pasteurized (refrigerated) milk available here (in Canada) as well as the long-life pasteurized in cartons on shelves (not many people buy that, though). I believe it's illegal to sell non-pasteurized milk in Canada.

Down here in Florida we have the long-life milk in cartons in some of the grocery stores. It's good as a hurricane supply. The UHT milk is pretty popular in the Caribbean which may be why we have it here but I can't speak for the rest of the country.
