I am trying to find someone (PacificAndy?) that has some solid knowledge of buying property and development on Tahiti. I understand the clear title issues but have other questions re the latest on foreign ownership of coastal property and long term leasing alternatives. I have a Tahitian friend with a lot for sale next door and am thinking of building a few quality bungalows. Thanks! gkc@adelphia.net

Gary - Hamara would have the best knowledge. The law changes all the time and it not that easy to do. Always better if you have a Tahitian partner but the due diligence of the land ownership takes the most time.

You all have heard the old saying "Being in the right place at the right time"
1. Find land that has been foreign ownership for many years.
this way you won't have someone claiming to have ownership claim on it.
2. Open a US dollar account in a FP bank.
3. Submit financial statements with your application to buy
4. Letters of recommendation
5. Police clearance letters from city. state, and Federal
data banks and have them cerified.
6. Everthing you submit must be translated into French.
In 1983 I was having lunch in Papeete with my good freind Dave Cave an American married to a Tahitian who had lived in Tahiti
since 1946. He introducted me to Francis Sanford in the restaurant and who was in
the government. During WW2 Mr Sanford represented the Free French
on Bora Bora and he became friends with Mr. Fred Haley (US Navy)
who was the Harbormaster on Bora. Mr. Haley is from Tacoma and I knew Fred on a first name basis. Mr. Haley's company produces
Amond Roca. I got permission to buy in 91 days.

Hey, Pacific Andy!

How do you keep up with the local news? It sounds like you have a lot of detailed information on the development situation there. If your information source is freely available, I'd love to have the link so I can follow what's up, too. Thanks!
