I was just cruising thru my gmail email account when I saw a text ad that I couldn't resist clicking on. Anyone have $4 million to spare?

It was for sale a few months ago for $14 million. Here is the problem with this hotel. You only purchasing the land. The hotel itself needs to be torn down because all the rooms and common areas need to be redone. Its a complete do over. You figure with the going rate of rooms in Tahiti you will need to spend about $100,000plus per room to rebuild. About another 6million in redo. It brings you to $10 million for a new hotel. Not too bad.

So what happenend to Jim Anderson who was leasing the Sofitel? When you lease something, aren't you supposed to maintain it?

Thank you so much for posting this. I signed on to this site to find out what was going on with the Heiva Sofitel. I know some people feel it needed "redoing", but I loved it there because it was so basic. The beach bungalows were our favorite. Very simple, but clean. Last time in Huahine, we spent 9 days in our bungalow and on that beach. It was heaven. Haven't been back to Huahine since because the Heiva closed down.

I loved Huahine. It still retains some Tahitian culture. Unlike Bora Bora, which used to be a beautiful island, but has become just one gigantic hotel/resort.

You can go back to Huahine because it is still wonderful. There are other choices of places to stay there. There is a new one listed in this topic that is a pension on the coconut island across from the Sofitel. The Sofitel is falling apart. It is so sad to see it in disrepair. But as I said, there are other choices of places to stay such as our beloved Villas Bougainville or Finnano's beloved Relais Mahana, to name a couple.

Yes, I remember fondly the days when there was the Hana Iti, the Bali Hai and the Sofitel in Huahine. The Sofitel was great because of the location and the beautiful Tahitian decor. Unfortunately, Tahitian decor needs constant maintenance as it doesn't last very long due to the fact that it's all wood and leaves. Same thing with the Hana Iti. What an amazing masterpiece that was! Never to be repeated again. Very sad.
Hopefully they will rebuild on the Sofitel location in this lifetime...
