Rangiroa and Manihi for Honeymoon - some questions...

Hi - My future husband and I are planning on a trip to FP for our honeymoon. We'll be there at the beginning of September and are planning to stay at the Kia Ora Sauvage, the Manihi Pearl Beach (in an overwater bungalow) and the Eden Beach Resort on Bora Bora. Can anyone tell me if we picked well? We're not big resort types and loved the idea of both KOS and Eden Beach. Can you also tell me what the beaches are like in Manihi and Rangiroa? Are they sandy? Or are they more rough?
This is our first trip to FP and I want to have a good all-around experience. There's SOOO much information out there that I'm not sure what to do or where to stay.
Thanks.

It sounds like a great tripo, but the reason for asking how long a trip is that you do not want to try to do too many islands in too short a time. If you are only staying 6 or 7 days, I would not recommend 3 islands. You spend too much of your time traveling between islands.
P.S. to Saltygrl - We are going to Rangiroa in March, can tell you about the beaches then. The beach at Bora Bora last April, but spent more of our time on our deck, in the water or out and about the island.

We're planning on going for 12 days - so, 4 days/nights per island. I can already tell that I'm going to wish I was going for longer!!
I would love to hear about your trip in March when you return.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

For 12 days, 3 islands sounds great. Gives you enough time to relax and see the things you want to see on the islands.
This board has a lot of good (sometimes conflicting)advice that will address most of your questions. You'll have a great time! We met lots of great tourists from all over the world and greet people from FP when we were there. Cannot wait to return.

"Conflicting" advice could simply mean difference of opinion. Each person is different and experiences things differently.
Personally I find the interisland transferring an exciting journey in itself. Small airports (really I should say small air HUTS), a short scenic journey over the water with some beautiful views and a lovely litle drive to your resort. Really it takes no more than a few hours and not a whole day as one might think.
Rangi and Manihi are close to each other so the flight is less than 30 minutes, if she gets on the nonstop Bora-Rangi flight or vv, then thats not terribly taxing at all either.
Either way, I hope she enjoys her trip.

My point is, I would not recommend trying 3 islands in 6 or 7 days. I don't think that you would get enough time on any one island and would spend too much time shuttling between islands. That is my opinion. Your opinion is equally valuable.
As to conflicting advice, just read the posts about the Sheraton Moorea or the Bora Bora Nui Resort. The posts range from loved it to hated it.
As to travelling betwen the islands, it is part of the adventure,, but having flown as much as I have, I do not get a thrill out flying, but don't hate it either.

I'm going to Rangi and Manihi in May. Like you, I'll be doing 4 days on both islands; but I'll also be on 2 other islands for a total of 14 nts. I can let you know what I think of KOS and Manihi PB. I believe that most of the islands comprise of crushed coral that is very fine. I have a base idea of what to expect after doing lots of research, so if you have more questions, I may be able to help you; but certainly there have been lots of people who've been to both places already and can give you a great idea.

Dear Saltygrl,
I think, in fact I KNOW, that you have picked the Islands well...it's hard to go wrong (although you may find that Manihi and Rangiroa are somewhat similar)! My wife and I have been twice, most recently this past January. We stayed on Bora Bora (at a friend's house) but previous to that, stayed at the "Beachcomber" prior to it being owned by the Intercontintal chain. We did visit it this past January (several of the same people were working there) and it is simply beautiful. It is pretty pricey but you're only going to be there once (hopefully twice!). The Eden Beach is brand new and from a distance looked nice. If I recall correctly, it is on an island (motu) so you are kinda locked in to their boats for transfers to the main part of the island. If I were to go back and stay at a hotel on Bora Bora, it would be the Sofitel Motu. It is stunning! Even though it's on a motu, the transfer boat is "on demand" and takes you to the other Sofitel which is very close, and you have the "run" of their facilities, but that is not returned to those staying at the Sofitel on the main island. It's just a beautiful resort. Which takes me to Rangiroa. We stayed at the Kia Ora Village (it's okay...just okay...the food is TERRIBLE) but we also went to the Sauvage. Absolutely the BEST vacation we've ever had. It's not for everyone, but the staff, the activities, the food, the accomodations, and above all else, THE HOST, make it the best Polynesian experience we could have asked for. We cannot wait to go back there. There's no electricity and mosquito nets are necessary, but still, it was a blast. We are saving so that we can go back there. You are going in an odd numbered month (September, right?), so that means your host will be a Polynesian named Michel. He absolutely MADE our vacation...very knowledgable and just a fun guy to be around! There are only five huts so it's not crowded, and you meet some of the nicest people. Speaking of which, one of the other couples we met at the Sauvage had just been to the Sofitel Motu on Bora Bora, and they raved about it! Good Luck!
Ron
