Thanks Ron!! The Sauvage is truly the part that I think we're looking forward to the most. It's my ideal vacation spot. I, too, was a little wary of Manihi and Rangiroa being so similar but we're staying Overwater on Manihi and at the Sauvage on Rangiroa so I think they'll overall be very different experiences. The bottom line is that I CAN'T WAIT!
Thanks for all the advice and info.

I LOVED Rangi and was very pleased with the KOV. The KOS will be for next time. My only comment on KOV is that the dive shop there runs a very hurried schedule...we're talking 2 Zodiacs going out up to 4 times each daily. They were not negligent in any way, but you definately sense the time urgency in the staff and they do not go out of their way to linger and show you neato stuff as at certain other resorts. I came up most of the time with 1500psi left and am a big dude. There are at least 2 other well-rated dive outfits on Rangi who will pick up at the hotel.
I would like to hear more on the BB Eden PB, which seems (in pictures) to have one hell of a view but may be a bit short on amenities. Anyone?

Just a response to the question about beaches.
There is no "beach" per se at the Pearl Beach Manihi. The hotel is on the lagoon, facing east. The "beach" is on the air-strip side, away from the hotel. It's very hot over there, and the beach is rough.
The water around your bungalow (lucky guys!) is all coral, as is the strip of "beach" around the hotel. Make sure to bring your reef shoes or sandals!
You will love this hotel. It is amazing.

Wendy, we are thinking about a 3-4 day stay on Manihi in conjunction with a bit longer stay on another island. However, what puts us off Manihi is the eastern aspect of the resort. We are sunset-loving folk and the sunsets are right up there with snorkeling for vacation activities and resort preferences. Is there an area at the Pearl that has a western perspective for the sunset viewing? Hope that you are still visitng this site, Suz

Hi, yes I still read the boards.
I think there's no trouble with sunsets at the PB Manihi. Especially if you're out in an OWB. We were on the beach, but just headed out to the bar at the front of the hotel. As well as sunsets, the stars are amazing, and the moonrise is spectacular depending on the phase of course.
Remember that sunsets in the tropics are very quick. They are also spectacular, and often affect the whole sky, not just the west. I took a great picture in Bora Bora in April, facing east, during the sunset. It was a great echo effect with pale purple and pink.
And also remember, that if you are coming from N.A., then you *will* be waking up earlier than usual. So you may get to see those spectacular sunrises too, at least for the first few days.
