Hi

My wife and I who recently married on the 03rd of May have recentlty returned from 21nts if FP and in our experience of Tikehau was truly amazing.

Our trip was 2 nts Tahiti (Beachcomber), 6nts Tikehau #24 DXL Beach Bung, 6nts Bora Bora Pearl Beach #26 POWB and finally Tahaa PB #9 Tahaa OWsuite.

Tikehau is great! The water was the clearest of all locations. The marine life was easily the most populated. the coral was the best by a mile. The beach was lovely and very natural with loads of cool crabs walking around all the time !! The best snorkeling in FP i've seen was also on Tikehau.

We swam with sharks nearly everyday. ( Black tips and Lemon sharks )

It actually quite hard to explain how it felt to be on Tikehau. It was just so peaceful and when we got to Bora Bora it quite a come down really after the serenity of Tikehau.

Basically not many people talk of Tikehau on here as most of the visiters are from Italy / France or the UK ( like us ) Most Americans go to Rangi it seems.

Go there...its great

Alex

My Wife and I spent three days in Tikehau, May 1-4, and absolutely loved it. I was hoping to write a trip report upon our return, but work has kept me extremely busy.

We went to Ta'haa (2 days), Huahine (4 days), Bora Bora (5 days), and Tikehau for (3 days). Of all the places, we loved Tikehau the most. I'm not sure how to describe it, but there weren't too many people there to make it feel crowded, but enough to not make it feel deserted. (I say this because the Te Tiare on Huahine almost seemed deserted.) The food was fantastic, for dinner you have a choice of three appetisers, three entres, and three deserts. And they make their own ice cream. The drinks were great, as well. The island was beautiful, the grounds were very well maintained, the water was really clear, and tons of fish. I think Alex summed it up well. It was very, very relaxing. And the staff was very friendly. We stayed in a beach bungalow (#25), and also loved it. Bring some reef shoes, though! There are these little silver fish that love to eat bread. My wife got such a kick out of feeding them. There were literally 70 - 80 of these little guys trying to nibble away at the bread. It was funny to watch. If you like to snorkle, you will like Tikehau. The currents can be a little strong, so be careful. We did see one small black tip reef shark one day under the OWB's, and we saw four eagle rays on the other side of the island by the end of the beach bungalows. There is an area the gets a little deep, and they were swimming around in there.

While the other islands were also beautiful, this was my textbook
"paradise". We decided that the next time we visit FP, we could easily just visit Tikehau.

If it is your first time to FP, I would recommend seeing some of the other islands, but Tikehau is a good way to finish it off.

If you would like some pictures, post your email address, and I can email you some.

Ken

Ken D: I would love to see some pictures. My email is kathleen@pr-tech.com. We went last August and September to Huahine, Bora Bora and Moorea. We loved Huahine the best. It was so low key, just exactly what we were looking for. I am also planning my next trip back hopefully this year.

My wife and I are going to Manihi, Tikehau, and Rangiroa in September. I was a little worried about Tikehau due to lack of posts and some negative posts. But it sounds just perfect, as we love to dive and snorkel. Thank you for the positive comments.

We also stayed at the Pearl in Tikehau. We stayed in a owb and really needed air conditioning, as it was hot and even when there was a breeze, it was smoky because they burn to keep down the mosquitos.
Tikehau was very quiet. We had great views of the night sky from our deck and the water is very clear. There are all kinds of fish who like to eat bread. You can watch them right off the walks to the owbs.
I would recommend the beach bungalows over the overwaters. There is no direct access to the water from the owb's because the current is sometimes very strong and the water is pretty shallow. We tried to move to a beach bungalow, but they were all booked.
The snorkeling was excellent, the water was clear, but not as clear as the coral gardens in Bora Bora. We entered the water from the beach. There were quite a few sharks (small ones) I saw one feeding less than two feet from the beach.
We had some of the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets there.
The food was good, but the menu was limited, so you might not find something you really like. Whatever we had was good, except for breakfast - which seems to be typical for all polynesia.
The owb's would be perfect with a/c. Opt for the beach bungalows if you can.

ALEX, wanted to ask you if your requested #9 in Tahaa or were you just lucky enough to get it? Would you recommend this OWB? I've heard it's the best. Thanks
