Ok guys, I need your help again. It is one week before our trip and my travel companion now wants to visit one more island.

We will be staying on Bora Bora for a week. We are thinking we want to go to Taha’a or Raiatea or even Huahine for 1 night.

We are going to keep our hotel in Bora Bora and just bring a backpack with essentials so we wont really have to pack/unpack.

Here are my questions:
1. Is it going to be worth the time to visit another island just for a day?
2. Does anyone know if the transportation boats will allow this kind of trip?
3. Can anyone recommend a 1-day itinerary/island?
4. I was thinking of even trying out a pension so we can get the feel of the culture. Can anyone recommend one?

I am all ears and look forward to your thoughts.

Matt

1. Why not? Many people do.
2. Transportation boats will allow anything. If it goes there, so can you!
3. Huahine and Raiatea both have nice selections. Raiatea is more spiritual, has beautiful mountains and scenery and gets little toursts except those in pensions (but still not a great number), but is not known for beaches (you'd get that on Bora I'd assume). Huahine is also very beautiful, and has a lively town called Fare (don't expect much, just one little street) with little restaurants and shops. Magnificent vistas on Huahine iti. I could suggest places, but don't feel comfortable doing so on this board (the land of the "best overwater bungalow/must be built within last year/will there be bugs and sun" people If you want to give your email, I'd do so.

Apparently a new boat has been launched (high speed) which goes from Papeete to Huahine to Raiatea to Bora Bora called the Corsaire (no, not the airline) but the details are still new, there is of course, the old standby Vaeanu and one of the Taporos which ply the waters 3 times a week.

For a day trip, I would suggest flying instead of taking a ferry. The flights from Bora to Huahine and/or Raiatea take about 20 minutes whereas a ferry takes a few hours and has less frequency.

You could go to Maupiti. A (small!) boat leaves once or twice a week from the dock in Bora Bora's main town, but there are more frequent flights. The island has no hotels, but some pensions. Ask in your hotel in Bora Bora where you could eat in Maupiti or take a 'pique-nique'.
