We were planning a trip to the Vahine Island Resort but I read in an earlier post that there are lots of jelly fish and cucumbers in the waters
in front of the resort.
Too bad....it looks gorgeous but I can't see going that far then being afraid to go into the water. I love the look/sound of this place but not being able to swim in the beautiful lagoon would not make my trip complete...
I'm very disappointed.

We've been to Vahine 3 times in 4 years. I have never seen one jellyfish ever. There are sea cucumbers scattered around the lagoon bed but nowhere enough to keep anyone out of the water. I have heard that sea cucumbers are a sign of clean sea water. Let me know if you have any specific questions or want photos of the resort. jnthomas@att.net

We have seen many sea cucumbers at all the resorts on the seven islands we've stayed at in FP. While they aren't the most attractive sight they are harmless. While we have never been to the Vahine resort we have have been to Le Tahaa and have never seen any jellyfish there; or anywhere else in FP.

Wow,That is really good to hear.I've been in the water off the overwater bungalows in Moorea and Bora Bora and I have never seen them either....
And reading that cucumers are harmless makes me feel better too!

We have been there 3 times and love it. Vahine Island is very small and intimate. It sits on a motu off the coast of Taha'a and there are only 9 total bungalows: 3 over water, 3 beach and 3 deluxe beach bungalows. This is a great place for sunbathing and relaxing in general.
The deluxe beach bungalows are very big, open, have a large deck and are really comfortable. There is a great view of the lagoon, Bora Bora and the reef. The sun sets directly in front of your deck every night. There are two ceiling fans, double sinks, a corner lounge area, king size bed, large deck w/two chairs and two lounge chairs, a CD player, and a DVD player with a flat panel TV. The TV is just for use with the DVD player, there is no TV Service.
The Beach bungalows are much smaller. One fan, smaller deck, one sink, no TV or CD player. They do have the same fabulous view as the deluxe bungalows.
You can arrange any kind of activity (diving, excursions etc.) through the staff. You have to leave the resort for all excursions. There is nothing else on the motu except the resort. The snorkeling is good right in front of the beach bungalows, although the water is shallow (3-5 ft). We've seen rays, starfish, eels, octopi and of course thousands of tropical fish.
The food is excellent. The dining area is open air for all three meals. Breakfast is an assortment of bread, jams, butter, juice, coffee/tea and fruit. You also have a choice of different egg and bacon combinations and an omelet. The homemade vanilla yogurt is to-die-for. Lunch is a small menu with great salads or beef/fish grilled with a salad or fries. You make your dinner selection during breakfast. There is an appetizer, main course and dessert. Although we don't drink there appears to be a nice wine list.
If you like to participate in a lot of different activities close by this is not the place to go. But, if you want drop-dead gorgeous, quiet and romantic, it's a great place. I also think the value for the price is great. I can answere specific questions if you have them.

Jonathan, have you tried the "cast-away picnic"? Not sure what it costs or whether it's worth doing. But we're sure looking forward to staying at Vahine!

We haven't tried that one yet. They do have a cute little motor boat you go out on and there is a string of motus next to Vahine to explore.
