My husband and I will be staying at La Pirogue in Tahaa for 5 days in February. I guess it's a fairly new place and we can't find any comments or opinions about it anywhere. Anyone??

We are also staying at La Pirogue in March for a few days.It looks wonderful and it's in a great location. The only place we were able to find a recent review on this place was http://www.tripadvisor.com.
We have a beach bungalow reserved and cannot wait to go! Their website looks heavenly!
Since you will be there before we are please come back to Tahiti Explorer and write us a review!!
I'll be anxious to read all about it...
Debbie

Thanks, Deb! I will write a review after our trip. It does look very nice and we picked it because we love Relais Mahana in Huahine and La Pirogue looks a bit similar, just newer. We'll also be staying in R. Mahana for 9 days. I'm so ready!

Hi Deb and Finnano. We too have wanted to visit and explore Tahaa but do not want to stay at Le Tahaa (too large, expensive, not appealing to us). Looked at Le Pirogue after you mentioned here and think that it looks very nice. We look forward to your postings when you both return! Have fun, Nana, vai

My husband and I stayed at Hotel La Pirogue last June and loved it. We stayed for 3 nights in a beach bungalow and found the whole experience to be wonderful. The bungalow was simple, but lovely and offered a great deal of privacy which we liked. We found the owners and staff to be warm and accommodating and the property itself was beautiful. One of the owners (the husband) is the chef and his food was outstanding. The first day we were there, there were 3 other couples besides us and by the last night it was just us and another couple, so we literally had the place to ourselves! We spent most of our time in the water and one day they ferried us across to Tahaa where we cycled around for a while. Initially, I had thought I would go to Le Tahaa for an afternoon to get a massage or something, but I couldn't be bothered! We were so happy on little Motu Poru, it was difficult to leave :-)

One thing I will mention though: I believe there are techically 4 beach bungalows and 4 garden bungalows. This 4th beach bungalow is set a bit farther back from the beach. In my opinion, it's kind of like a half beach/half garden bungalow. If this matters to you and you really want the true beach bungalow experience, try to get one of the 3 you see in the pix on their web site right on the water if you can. I believe they are numbers 1, 2 and 3 from left to right. We were in the last one with the shrubs in front that has the separate dock, no deck into the water (#3). All in all, La Pirogue is a fantastic little hideaway and you all have a great time ahead of you!

doodlebug,Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review on your experience at the La Pirogue. Our schedule is only allowing us 2 nights.I really wanted to stay at least three but they did not have availability in their beach bungalows and we did not want to down grade from beach for 2 nights then go into a garden for the last 2...I would have taken it if it was the other way around.
Should I write and request one of the first 2 bungalows with the decks that go into the water??
I really love those.Even though the one set back would be fine I would really like one with a deck that goes right into the water. We wanted to take the boat to Tahaa ourselves but we weren't sure what there was to do there??
I am sooo excited now I cannot wait!
Thank You for the great info!!
Debbie

Deb, I don't think it would hurt to ask if you could reserve one of the first 2 beach bungalows. We loved #3, I was constantly sunning myself on the dock. But my husband and I both agreed that #2 looked great and that if we ever went back, we'd try that one!

The one thing on Tahaa that sounded interesting to me was a tour of the vanilla plantation. There's also a 4x4 excursion around the island and some other things that I can't remember. They keep the excursions and activities book at the bar/reception hut so you can look at it at your leisure. They have bikes at La Pirogue for guests to use, along with kayaks, a canoe (pirogue) and perhaps some snorkeling gear, but we had our own so I'm not sure.

Have a great time :-) It's a dreamy little place and I guarantee you, you won't want to leave!

doodlebug,I e-mailed the owners and requested bungalow one or two.It would be nice to get either one but one of the other two beach bungalows sound great too!I'm sure we'll be happy with whatever we get.
It sound like they have a couple of interesting tours on Tahaa but now that I think of how short a time we have at La Pirogue maybe we'll just kick back and relax for the two days were there.
It sound like a great place! Just one more question; We drink a ton of water while were in Tahiti...is there someplace at the La Pirogue or in the area to buy bottled water?? I mean we drink quart after quart.Hopefully I can buy it without paying a fortune.I know bottled water can get expensive at some of these places..
Thanks,
Debbie

Deb, sorry I just missed you, we were at La Pirogue the last 5 days of February, returned home on March 1st. So by the time you read this, you will have your own review! We loved La Pirogue, my husband especially. The bungalow was absolutely perfect, we stayed in #3 on the beach. I agree that "beach" bungalow 4 is really not on the beach; rather a "superior garden bungalow". 1,2 and 3 are all sort of equal, very private and close to water. Water is very shallow, no coral head, but there's OK snorkeling at nearby Vahine Island (you can take the free canoes there). The GREAT coral garden is by the Le Tahaa hotel, but to get there you have to take one of the island tours or pay $60 per person for a boat ride from La Pirogue. We liked it so much that we did both!
Food is fantastic, but of course pricey (entrees $20-$38), and what bummed us out was the price of the water, $5 per liter (quart). This does not include 10% tax on everything, which they add to the final bill. We also drink a lot of water (average 2 liters per person/day - that's reasonable, right?). We didn't want to pay over $100 for bottled water over our 5 day stay, so on our first rental car outing to Tahaa we bought 6 liters and some sodas.
We have done 4 trips to the FP now, and we know that everything is expensive, so.. it's just good to give/get advice on how to save a few bucks, so that the next trip will be that much sooner!
Deb, let me know how your trip went.
