Here is a link to a recent trip report by Chufisha who stayed at the Raiatea Hawaiki Nui. It is not a complete report but does discuss the hotel briefly and there are some photos.

I was there a month ago... Very good stay, plenty of activities, nice staff, etc...
Would recommend OWB 29 for 2-3nights. It was the last one to the right.

How about the transfer to the Raitea Hawaiki Nui ? Do I need to book it ahead of time or can I get a shuttle at the airport ?

france1:

We purchased a transfer for 30.00 a couple only to find a cab ride would have been 20.00.
Just take a cab.

We loved the Hawaiki Nui and spent 9 days there just a couple weeks ago.
The overwater bungalows were plenty decent and very very inexpensive. No doubt this was the best bargain we've experienced in our 5 trips to the islands over the last 16 years.

How about restaurants?
Besides the one at the Hotel ¿are any other places near by to eat?
Thank you

We spent 2 nights at the Hawaiki Nui this month- 1 on each side of a Moorings Sailboat charter.

At first glance, I was a little disappointed for the (first)room was really tired-looking. We did not stay at an OWB at the Nui. Be aware, we had just left Huahine and a DOWB at Te Tiare, so what could measure up?

Now, I can truly say the Nui had an ambience all its own. The staff was just fantastic, the restaurant was great, in our opinion, and they had a really cute family Tahitian dance show on the Wed. night we first arrived. We loved the lamb and the veal osso bucco at the restaurant!

Town is an easy 2 km walk. We wanted to eat at Quai de Pecheurs for lunch, but never could find it. I think it may have been bought out and is now called (the sailfish) in French, of course.

We did not snorkel at the Nui because both days we were there were cloudy, rainy or very windy. It looked like it would be good, though, for the DOWBs are right on top of the reef edge!!

From what I read...this is the hotel the "Bali Hai Boys" invented the over-water bungalow, for Raiatea has few beaches. As to the original name of the hotel, you are probably correct, though I can't say for sure. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
