Hopefully since it is only the Beach Villas that are being worked on, the water won't be too badly disturbed.(unless from what I understand there is a lot of rain.)

it does seem from reading and browsing the web that most people that go to Taha'a after the newer BB resorts have not been as impressed as guests coming from other resorts. (This is purely based on several reviews I have found online.)

I am wondering if in the future TA's will encourage travelers to go to Tahaa first then to BB if they are staying at the St regis/Thalasso/Nui.....

We aren't really looking to do Taha'a first since we are just dying to get back to Bora Bora and want that to be our first stop.

jchip- sounds like you will have the two resorts in a great order. I am hoping that the OWB itself isn't a disappointment after the extravagant rooms of BB.

the more I have read through many sites the more I see that Taha'a has issues with Mosquitos. (I know lots of islands have this..although we had no issues with them in BB or Moorea) I am wondering if the skeeters are better during the winter season ie-July. I am one of those people that instantly attracts mosquitos no matter how much OFF or other repallants I use and reuse!

From reading various posts on this board and from my own experiences, it seems like bugs-- if they are going to be a problem-- are more of a problem if you're staying in a beach/garden bungalow instead of an overwater. Of course, you do have to venture out of your owb sometime unless you llive on room service ;)

Seriously, tho, we've had really good luck with the little nightlight-lookng things you find in the room that you plug into an electrical outlet (I think some problems folks have reported with bugs is because this is unfamiliar-- we didn't know what it was for until we ate at a restaurant that plugged one in at our feet to keep the skeeters away). I've also found that bugs tend to be random... all the resorts spray (or so it seems), so it just depends on when they last sprayed, how much rain, etc. The Bora Bora Pearl, for a while, was getting a number of reviewers who were eaten alive in their beach and garden bungalows. We were there in the same year and a half period (during the rainy season and it rained every night) and the only bites we got were when we left the windows open one night (and we didn't use off). So it can vary... I'd bring the bug spray and I'd certainly try the monoi oil (its supposed to be good for keeping critters off and smells waayyyy better than deet-- they sell some small bottles in the groceries, gift shops, etc, specifically intended for repelling bugs), but I wouldn't worry about it.

DO bring the bug spray tho if you go on an excursion that is a 4x4 or a motu picnic. We're 50/50 for getting greeted by a cloud of bugs on those (and being hailed as a hero by the other attendees for having bug spray!)

Jchip- you won't be rushed for dinner. The dinning is very continental- intended to be the highlight of the evening, with heads on the shrimp/fish, ect. Takes about 2 hours on the short end for three courses.
