The most recent two reviews of Le Taha'a on tripadvisor mentions that getting the meal plan is a good idea. Has anyone done that? Do you know what it includes?
Last time we went, we just got breakfast included, and paid separately for lunch and dinner. I can't remember how much we spent, but it was our honeymoon, so we definitely weren't so worried about cost (meaning we got appetizers and dessert most nights at dinner, and had nice lunches each day). We are starting to plan our next trip there, and I hadn't thought about the meal plan, but now am curious.

Hi, carrieg. We got the half board (breakfast and dinner only) and ate breakfast in the resturaunt and room service every night for dinner except the seafood night (what a meal!). We checked the prices on the room service menu and compared them to what we paid (I had lobster nearly every night) and the meal plan is pretty close to half the price you'd pay at the resturaunt, so it works out that one of you will eat free if you get the plan. I would totally recommend the plan for this reason alone. Plus, the OWB's are so huge that we didn't really want to leave them, so the room service (no extra charge) suited us perfectly.

G'day Gary ... thanks so much for your learned advice! I have a few more questions for you, if you don't mind.
How does the selection off of the room service menu compare to that in the restaurants? I'm thinking that if you had lobster delivered to your bungalow, then it had to be pretty good. How long did you typically wait from ordering to delivery? Also, did you arrange for your half board meal plan before you got to the resort or when you arrived?

QuincyMom, you are a mind reader! I have the same questions for Gary about the half board plan at Le Taha'a, as we are still trying to decide which way to go - half, full, or none. We don't want to feel locked into eating set meals each day, as food is not our focus (although we do enjoy fine dining, and are fairly adventurous), but the cost savings (half the standard cost of room service?!) may be too tempting to pass up. We also tend to share a plate at most meals, so over-abundant quantities of food is not our thing. I believe we can arrange the board plan by any number of days, is this accurate? Gary (or others), any more words of wisdom on this topic are greatly appreciated!

I'm interested in hearing more about this too. So far I just have breakfast included but we are not even paying for it as it's an amenity thru our travel agent. So any way I could get just dinner thru the meal plan? And when you have dinner thru the meal plan - can you eat at any restaurants? How does it work? In case we don't want to do room service - what restaurants can we eat at?

Hey there all ... Tahitibitten posted this information in a different thread back on 7/18/06. The search tool is pretty handy!
"My husband and I just returned from Le Taha'a and had several conversations about whether the meal plan is worth it. The MAP is breakfast and dinner. Full board is 3 meals a day. Breakfast is a huge buffet with an amazing selection each day (and if you go to breakfast on the late side and are creative a little cheese, fruit and bread in the room goes a long way toward a light lunch!
Dinners are generally 3 courses on the meal plan but if you don't eat that much, it might be less expensive for you to order a la carte off the menu. You can look at the Le Taha'a website for menus (and I think prices for items if you order a la carte) at their restaurants. Additionally, the meal plan prices are listed on the price list.
One thing I will say about the meal plan, if you prepay (we did this for 1/2 of the days we were there--you don't have to take the meal plan every day), it is taxed at a lower rate than other services. Also, you can always decide to add the meal plan once you arrive.
Additionally, at Ohiri (the upscale restaurant) they charge you a supplement on top of the meal plan of $60 CFP. So the bottom line is for you to think about how large of a meal do you usually eat, especially at dinner where 3 courses are included in the meal plan. Hope this is helpful."

G'day Quinceymom and superstar. We only ate dinner in the restaurant on the seafood buffet night, which is an absolute must, so I couldn't give you a comparison on the two menus, but there was a huge variety on the room service menu. The lobster salad entree was a particular favourite of mine. Our next trip there will be based on the night of this buffet which I think was a Saturday. We missed the Polynesian night (Monday) as we were only there for 5 days. The rooms have a fenced off enclosure, which contains a gazebo with table and chairs with a ceiling fan in it, a huge sun deck and a lower deck with a fresh water shower. The room is next to the main deck. We ate in the gazebo each night. The food arrived within 20 minutes of placing the order over the phone and we were in a bungalow which was the furthest away from the restaurant (Sunset OWB #42). We only got half board as our lunch each day consisted of cheese and crackers, fruit and a Mai Tai made from duty free rum and some juice bought from the small supply store on the main island! That was enough for me as I ate raw coconut on the dive boat each morning on the way back to the resort. The room was that nice that we didn't want to leave it, hence the room service.
