Hi All,
Heading to Le Taha'a in March for my honeymoon. Had emailed the resort requesting a specific beach villa (the one with the most privacy). Just heard back from them saying this:
"Unfortunately, we can not guarantee that all renovations will be over at that time, and we may still have constructions going on, especially on the villa side. To make sure that you can have a great stay with us and that you will enjoy your room, we would like to offer you an upgrade in a Bora Bora Overwater Bungalow. This category of room is one of our best, and you will have a great view on Bora Bora and lots of privacy. If you visit our website, you can see a map of the room. Please tell us what you think and if you agree with this offer. We remain at your disposal if you need any help, detail or information, We look forward to your answer,"
We really had our hearts set on the beach villas as friends of ours stayed in one and have not stopped raving about it. We are already spending many nights in an OWB at Bora Bora Thalasso so was looking forward to the change in room type on Tahaa. I won't be totally upset if we end up in an OWB at Tahaa but would much rather the beach villa. The beach villas are so much bigger in size and we love the idea of the plunge pool and outdoor shower. We live in a small NYC apt and the beach villa just excited us - it looks double the size of our apt if you can believe it. I guess I just don't understand why they would book reservations for the beach villas if they don't think they will be ready in time.
What would you do? Think I can email them back saying we would much rather a beach villa so we'll decide when we arrive if we take the upgrade to a Bora Bora OWB? Are the Bora Bora OWB's nice? They seem so much smaller in size. I am a little upset...really had my heart set on the beach villa. Just wondering what you all think of the Bora Bora OWB they are offering us instead....
All opinions are greatly appreciated - thanks!
PS - I think they aren't even doing any work to the existing beach villas...just building 2 new deluxe ones so I imagine they are trying to keep us as far away from the noise of construction as possible...
Thanks again!

The bora bora rooms are on the opposite side of the villas. I would take it. Size wise they are all the same- no difference in size only location

Here's a link to a PDF that provides excellent details about Le Taha'a, including the map that I already sent you and details about the villas and OWBs. According to this document, the beach villas are significantly larger than the OWBs. Check it out: http://www.pearlresorts.com/pro/data/_info/pdf/2006_le_tahaa.pdf
In my opinion, you have your heart set on the beach villa, so I think you should go with your heart. Technically, Le Taha'a never guarantees ANY room request, so all of us are taking gambles, right? You've been through so much, I really hope you get what you want. Let us know how it works out!

Thanks! I realized I am being crazy stressing out over this...I think we are going to accept their offer. I mean half the beauty of FP is the amazing overwater bungalows! And it sounds like they are too sure that they won't be completed with the work on time and since they are offering to move us over to the Bora Bora OWB's - the furthest away from the beach villas - I realize they must be doing this for a reason. I think the work they are doing is near the beach villas. We definitely won't want to hear any construction noise so I think we'll be happy in the OWB's. And if we get there and they happen to be finished with the work and do have a beach villa still available - maybe we'll switch back. But I realize this is a vacation and no need to stress or get upset about one gorgeous room over another!
So thanks for the input and thoughts everyone! Can't wait to come back with a full trip report for all of you! ANd pictures!

Not to worry, once you get a dose of an OWB, you'll realize you made the right decision.
We stayed in a BB one night at Le Taha'a, nice accommodation but IMO the OWB is the essence of French Polynesia and you simply can't get enough.
Trust me you'll love it and Le Taha'a in general is a knock out; boy are you in for a treat
