Anonymous Unregistered

I am so confused! I've made a reservation for an OTW bungalow at Le Meridien for 3 nights pre-cruise. Now I read that they don't have glass floor inserts--which the hotels told me they all have--and no direct access to the lagoon. What does this mean?
I'm most interested in snorkeling and wonder how it is there.
We decided against the Intercontinental because we were worried that there would be lots of plane noise with its proximity to the airport--is this not true?

I would not pay the extra money to stay at an OW at the Le Meridien. The rooms are nice but do not have the glass floors or direct access to the lagoon. Snorkeling there is not very good at all. The beachcomber has better OW's and do have access to the lagoon. Snorkeling is OK. If you have three full days why not take the ferry to Moorea and stay at any of th hotels there? Price is about the same but the experience is a millions times better.

We did not experience any plane noise at the Intercontinental in an OWB. It is a nice resort but no glass bottom in bungalows. I also agree with PA that you might want to consider spending the extra nights in an lovely resort on Moorea. It is a much prettier island with great snorkeling and a more relaxed atmosphere. It's only a few minutes by plane and also ferry travel back and forth. I would definitely spend the extra days on Moorea and I have done both in the past.

The reason we're not going to Moorea is that we were there last year and will be going again on the cruise. We stayed at the Inter-Continental there and weren't crazy about it--the snorkeling was not great, so we were thinking that the experience would be as good in Papaeete --without the hassel of getting there and back. But maybe I'm wrong!!Where do you go when you get into the water from the OTW bungalows, if not into the lagoon?

At the LM OWB, there are a few landings at the end of the rows of OWB that have ladders to the lagoon. I saw very few people using them. Most accessed the lagoon from the beach. We stayed in a std. lagoon view room and used the beach for lagoon access. I didn't snorkel, but did swim and use the hotel kayaks. I could see fish just by looking down into the water, so I assume that the snorkeling would be OK.

The o/w at the Beachcomber are in the bay area between Tahiti & Moorea. It is a bit like a big cove. We enjoyed it when we staryed in Oct. The snorkling was Ok but not great. They do have a couple of snorkling trip right from the hotel that were reported to be good by other vistors. I liked the hotel better than the ones in Moorea and Bora Bora.

We stayed at the BC on both Moorea and Tahiti, and if you thought the snorkeling "was not great" on Moorea, then you will absolutely HATE it on Tahiti. We were pleased with our snorkeling exp. on Moorea -- no glass panel floors, but we practically lived on our deck, and shimmied down our ladder right into, what we thought of, as great snorkeling.

We loved our overwater bungalow at the Intercontinental on Tahiti. We didn't notice any plane noise at all, and it didn't seem like we saw many planes except maybe twice a day. There was no glass bottom, but supposedly some of the others had them. The view of Moorea in the morning was the nicest part. We didn't snorkel but we saw lots of colorful fish and stingrays swim by at night when we had the light on. Very cool!
Lots of pics on my website http://www.submarineAZ.com and I have some small movies I need to upload too.

We stayed at LM Tahiti in October in a regular lagoonview. I would not pay the extra money for the OW there. The snorkling is OK, we practically lived in the water while there, and enjoyed playing with the local kids on the kayaks. We ate most meals at the pizza place next door. We ate breakfast at the buffet for free because while we were there the pool was broken, so we never got to go in the sand bottom pool.
If we ever went back to Tahiti though, I think I would consider staying at the beachcomber next time.

One more thing, the staff at LM was great, they new our names and made a point of saying hello anytime we passed through the lobby.
