A few reasons. One, just for something different. Two it was a lot closer to town, and three we stayed at beachcomber in Moorea and loved it so we would like to try Tahiti BC. Also liked the look of it when we passed through a couple times to pick up / drop off people.

I would have to agree with DJ and Submarine... we spent a night at the Beachcomber in the OWB (free upgrade from a motu bungalow)last April. We were probably in what would appear, from the map, to be the "worst" bungalow view-wise-- but it turned out to be a wonderful introduction to Tahiti. We got there later in the evening, so had a nice view of the lights from our room, while we could still hear the waves lapping and the surf breaking. The bungalow itself was gorgeous and covered with flowers; and the deck had a wonderful sitting area and ladder leading down to a water-level platform. The lights were on and we could see all sorts of fish swimming back and forth and around the pilings.

In the morning, although we were facing the island of Tahiti (rather than the Moorea-facing bungalows which appeared to have a spectacular view), we had a ringside seat for all of the practice races. The water was simply filled with canoes teams practicing for an upcoming race-- and we were at most twenty feet away. Probably not so good if you wanted to swim in the lagoon-- but a great introduction to a more "everyday" Tahiti that you can't purchase on a tour.

About the only negative was a brief thirty seconds, when, as we were watching the canoes and warming up to the romance of being on vacation without the kids, our neighbor emerged from the water, clambered up the ladder to his bungalow, removed his speedo and hung it up to dry. We turned our attention back to watching the races real fast

The swimup bar and the infinity pool were also a great way to relax, unwind from the flight, and start our vacation off on the right lazy note.

We liked it so much that we booked a room there for our final day on our upcoming vacation. I've heard that they finally finished the lagoonarium and have re-done most of the standard rooms, so we're looking forward to it.

Thanks so much for all the people who took time to write me. We've decided to stay at the Beachcomber. so ljf, that leads me to one more question--it sounds like you were in the motu otw bungalow. We were told that the deep water ones are nicer--but yours sounds wonderful. Can you tell me anything about the deep water ones? I was looking at their map--it looks like the deep water ones are at the end of the resort and the others are more central. Is this right?
I sure hope your neighbor has left the resort!!

Actually we were in the deep overwater; we booked for the motu, but got upgraded when we arrived. We were the first bungalow on your left as you walked down the wooden walkway that stretches out into the lagoon. These are the ones that are less "central;" we were worried at first, from looking at the map, that they were very far away from everything else-- but they are maybe a 2-3 minute walk from the infinity pool and swim up bar. Let me know what specific questions you have, and I'll do my best to answer them.

Dur--as I reread your message, I see you were in the deep water bungalow--the thing that threw me was I thought all those have the Moorea view--I'm so glad you told me--should I write to the hotel and request a Moorea view?
Do they have kayaks there? Is there anyplace else that you can walk to to eat besides the hotel? where DID you eat? We were thinking of trying to make some reservations--Thanks again for your help--
Carole

Carole,

From something someone said in one of the other posts on this board (Pacific Andy? Hamara? I can't remember, but it was someone whose opinion I would rate highly), many of the hotels are simply being bombarded with requests for specific requests. Perhaps you might have more luck with the view request? Honestly, I don't know what I would choose, if choosing were an option. Before we got there, I would most emphatically have said choose the Moorea view. After looking out our window that morning, however, I was pretty impressed with what I saw: lots to look at, a few night lights, and no one to our left. It would depend, I suppose, on what you prefer to look at (and the Moorea view seemed like it would be pretty spectacular). I'd probably just go without making specific requests and see what I got handed. Not too helpful, am I?

I'm afraid that I won't be much help with your other questions; we really were there only in transit to Moorea and Bora Bora, so we didn't check out the kayaks or walk anywhere outside the resort-- just lazed in the pools and such. Their website lists some of the amenities offered (but clearly mixes the free with the for-hire): http://www.tahiti.interconti.com/ We did see a part of the dance revue and enjoyed that. As far as food went, we ate at the hotel (it was included), but from what I hear the roulottes are not to be missed.

We'll be there on 2/9... let me know if there is anything I cans cope out for you then.

Carole,

It's probably most accurate to say that we're fleeing our kids We'll be at the Pearl Beaches in Huahine, Moorea and Manihi for three nights each, and then have a room booked at the Beachcomber to tide us over until our late evening flight back to LAX.
