Cheap Lodging Near AIRPORT

Hello everyone
I am wondering how most people deal with the very late flight arrivals and departures from Papeete. I arrive on a Saturday night at 11:50PM... any reasonably priced hotels that are clean and safe near the airport?
At the end of the trip I depart at 2:30AM on a Sunday morning - again, since all ferries and flights come back to Papeete from the other islands by 3 or 4PM, what does one do for the 10 hours prior to their flight - can luggage be checked in early? Do hotels have some type of hourly or half-day rate?
Thanks for any suggestions -

Hi Matt. Can't help you for the beginning of your trip, but can for the end. You can't check in your luggage early with the airline, as the counters do not open until a couple hours before the flight. There is a room to store your luggage for about 500 CFP a piece in the back of the flower shop at the parking lot of the airport. You can pick up Le Truck on the road above the parking lot for 130 CFP per person per way and spend an evening in Papeete.
Alternately, you can reserve a day room at a hotel, which usually run about $120, so that you can relax. I believe that when we looked into this, we had to be out of the room by 8:00 p.m. So that still left a few hours to kill. We didn't get a day room, but our flight left at 10:45 p.m. so not as bad as yours.
There are a couple gift shops at the airport and I ended up spending money there while killing time waiting for the boarding area to open. There was also a food court-type area for quickie meals. Didn't try it so don't know about it.

We got a room the day before our flight went back. We were able to swim, have dinner, take a nap and have a shower before checking out at midnight. We knew some people who wen sightseeing, etc until the 2:30 a.m. flight but we had chartered a sailboat and were pretty exhausted after that. It was not cheap but it was worth it for being clean and rested before the long trip home. Also, I noticed that the luggage storage area was not always open, which could be a hassle trying to reclaim your luggage. When we arrived, we hung out at the airport waiting for the flight to Riaitea. It went pretty fast after we had changed into cooler clothes, got some money from the ATM and had a snack at the snack bar. It was less of a hassle because it was just the beginning of the vacation. We didn't want to arrive home all frazzled though!

There's a small pension about a mile up the hill inland fron the airport called Chez Lola. Its a house, a family run operation. They have 3 rms and will take in the odd person to sleep on a cot in the living room.

There is a clean, reasonably priced hotel 4 miles from the airport in Papeete called Hotel Tiere Tahiti. You can take a taxi there from the airport. Put in an online search with their name and you will get more information from multiple travel sites. It's difficult to book a single night with them online -- most of the agencies want a 3-night minimum stay (but try Tahiti Explorer first!). You can reach them directly by phone at 689-50-01-00 or fax at 689-43-68-47. Depending on what night of the week you are arriving, there may still be restaurants, clubs, etc. opened at that time within walking distance.
