I have not been able to find any specific information on renting a Moped in Tahiti. Does anyone know how practicle this would be? Cost? Vendors? I would like to rent one for 2-4 days while I am in Moorea & Tahiti.

I would think twice before renting a moped in Tahiti. Moorea is fine but Tahiti would be crazy. On Tahiti the locals drive like nuts, I am not even sure you can rent a moped on Tahiti. In Moorea they still drive nuts but you only have one road so its a little better. Check Alberts tours in Moorea. I think they rent for $25 per day plus gas.

Thanks PA! I assume the majority of the crazyness is centered in Papeete? We'll be staying further down the coast in the Papara area. On another crazy note; do you have any advice on the idea of my trying surfing for the first time in Tahiti?

Tahiti is usually not the best place in the world to learn to surf. There is a few easy breaks on the west coast of Tahiti. Most good breaks are by the passes on the reef. You can contact Moana David and he does surf lessons and tours for beginers and experts he would be worth the lesson of you are serious. Otherwise, befriend and local and he will give you some ideas.
