Since we are renting a car at Faa'a, I would like to find detailed maps of how to get from the airport to the Sheraton and from the Sheraton to downtown. All the maps I've found are either very sketchy or don't show the airport or the Sheraton. Also, I saw an article in Tahiti online that a new paved road over the belvedere has opened recently. Anybody know the latest?

At the car rental place they have a map. Its not the best in the world thou. To get to the Sheraton from the airport go out onto the main road make a left and follow it around for about 5 minutes the Sheraton will be the large building with a big wall on your left hand side. It has a walking over pass and the enterance is right after it. Since Papeete has had a lot of traffic changes and road closures due to construction it is sometimes a nightmare to drive. Parking is even worst. If your going to go into town from the Sheraton take the free shuttle.

Thanks PA. We will ]probably take Le Truck for anything downtown. We'll use the car for seeing the rest of the island. I also just figured out that the Sheraton used to be the Outrigger Hotel Tahiti, which IS located on most of the maps.

Just got back. Road to Belvedere is new, but beware, it is very narrow (really only one lane) but it is used in both directions.
