it doesn't matter WHERE you stay or HOW MUCH you pay for your accoms. Roaches are simply PART OF THE TROPICAL ATMOSPHERE.
They simply do not have the same connotation as a dirty, rat infested building in New York city. Certainly no one likes them, but if it is going to be a problem for you, you really should re consider vacationing in the tropics.
Dont' forget the little lizards, the wasps/bees, centepedes as well!

Thanks Kathy. We will be on the Tahitian Princess also. Any comments? We've always been very happy with Princess, and everything I've read about the ship tells me it won't be any different this time around. As for the French, shouldn't be much problem. We're from Canada eh, (British Columbia) took lots of it in school, so between the 4 of us, we should be able to make due. Can read a lot more than I can speak. Otherwise, it will be lots of bread, fruit, beer and wine. Sounds pretty staple to me; right? Not to worry "mouche" The other bugs don't bother me at all.

The Tahitian Princess cruise we were on (Papeete, Huahine, Rorotonga, Raiatea, Bora Bora, Moorea) was great. Beauty beyond belief. The ship is up to Princess standards only on a small scale. Staterooms are a little larger than normal and well appointed, as is the whole ship. We only went on one ship arranged port excursion which was a 4X4 tour of Raiatea, so can't help you much there. The entertainers did a great job and really worked at it very hard. The entertainment staff are also cruise directors, which is different and a result of the small ship. The food was not spectacular, but we figured perhaps Princess did not have the provisions quite right yet for the new area they're in. Local dancers will probably come on board at Raiatea for a kid's show late afternoon and a show by adults late evening on deck. Do not miss these two shows, as they're great. We would definately cruise on the Tahitian Princess again.

Hi. How did you all get to the hiti moana villa? Did you take a taxi? or do they have a pick up service? or is it necessary to rent a car?
is it true there is a store nearby to shop for groceries? Is it a large enough store? or like a 7-11?
we are considering this place too for a quick before and after stop on our way to Bora Bora.
thanks so much everybody!

You can arrange for Steve (the owner) to pick you up. On the way you can stop at their big grocery store. Depending on how much time you have you may want to rent a car to see more of the island.

We arrive into Papetee at 2:40 am. Don't suppose that grocery store is open then?? Also, since you were cruising Kathy, did you guys every buy booze in port and bring it on the ship. Did they allow this. Princess has always been good in the past as far as this goes, but our last cruise, on Celebrity had them confiscating any liquor bought in port. Maybe it was just because we visited all duty free ones, but would like to know if I have to take a whole load of beer with me when we first embark.

We called the owner of Hiti Moana Villa to come pick us up. He charges $15 per person. The grocery store is good sized for the islands and has a little of most things. Steve stopped by there on the way to the villa, but as they were closing at noon on Sunday we didn't have time to get much, so he brought us back the next day for no extra charge. He is very easy to work with as long as you're decent to him. We made another grocery run when we had our car, as we stayed 6 days/5 nights and the refrigerator is not that large. You're not supposed to bring liquor aboard the Tahitian Princess, but we had some in the bags we brought on board from Rarotongo and Moorea and not a word was said. However, Princess did not have their usual scanning system for what you brought on board so things were not checked very well. This might change over time. The beer drinkers we talked to seemed to like the local beer--Hinano. What alcohol buy from their shop aboard ship is kept for you until disembarkation.
