Rosa, from what I have gathered, all taxis have a flat fee of about $25 from the airport to any of the Faaa hotels. I consider this a huge ripoff because they are all within 3-5 km from the airport. Depending on which night of the week, you might be able to get a Le Truck. Or find another couple to share the cost if you are all going to the same hotel, but do this in the baggage claim area, I have seen other people post and complain that if a taxi driver sees you trying to find someone to share costs, they try to hit both couples up for the fare. Some of the cheaper pensions offer free transport if you stay there--try http://www.haere-mai.com (I think that's it, if not search google for tahiti haere mai pension and it should come up).

I totally agree with Pacific Andy about the Sofitel in Tahiti. Although the food and beach are good, the hotel rooms are INFECTED with mold and mildew--which is part of the reason for a major renovation. In the States, the hotel would have been closed for health reasons. Two years ago I had to do one night there before getting into my hotel--and I could not sleep in the room due to the mold (I could not breathe). Took my blanket and slept on a slab of concrete outside. And left at 6 AM--never to return.
I guess if you are not bothered by this it might be OK for a night. But not for me--ever again.
Also agree with the write-ups on Sofitel Moorea and Huahine. Both locations are fabulous but the hotels could use some work. I do not have the problems there that I do with the Maeva in Tahiti. Better to stay in town at the Tiare Tahiti. Cheaper, and they have some nice rooms.
And service is poor on Moorea.

Just back--we were generally happy with the room, service and food at the Sofitel. Minor problem-aircon is a bit weak but we were on the top floor and caught a breeze off the balcony. Major problem-the phones are wonky and our wake-up call didn't work. When I tried to call out, I would get music and a message in French-didn't understand it so I thought it said the line was busy and call back later. So I went down to request a wake-up call and they put it in the system but it dodn't work. This caused us to have to rush our buffet breakfast to make the mid-morning ferry to Moorea. Bathroom was fine-room 717. Dance show Friday night with Heikura Nui dance troupe was excellent-see trip report for more.
